Ya Minko
"1. Where are you from?
I am originally from Gamba & Libreville, Gabon. I grew up in various cities locally and internationally
2. What schools have you attended?
Blaise Pascal, Libreville. A few language schools, because the process. Northern Virginia Community College. Life.
3. Have you always had a love for music?
The love for music was always present, one way or the other. Whether it had to do with breaking down songs to understand how they were built, belting my favorite records walking back from school, isolating myself to study the records I loved or ultimately creating and building, for myself and other creatives alike.
4. What is your musical inspiration?
It’s a hard question to answer. Though the simplest answer would be life. Life inspire me. The interactions between human beings, environnements & situations. Emotions, pain, growth, spirituality, the human condition. Everything my being interacts with is potential inspiration, because as an artist, I am both a reflection and a generator of life.
5. How would you describe your artistical style.
Curious, compassionate, & ambitious, to make it grossly short. I would prefer not to describe it, because it is still very much in development, but I try to keep it as true to my perception of life as possible, which can always change with time.
6. Is there a special message you wished to deliver in each of your recordings?
Each record is is a testament of moment in time. My time, or time I observe. The message is the record. The message is that moment, that observation. It could be a personal observation, or one more directed outwards but its always done and written with the intention of offering perspective to enhance togetherness, understanding & compassion. I also value vulnerability, which comes in many form. It could be aggression due to frustration, love, fear, passion, curiosity or bravado. My records manifest as the most honest versions of the moments they’re either a part of, or the observers.
7. What is your philosophy on music in general?
It’s an all of us thing. & because we are infinite, it’s an every expanding, and never ending learning experience. It is as shared as it is personal. It is both air, and dessert. We grow with it, grow through it, and exist with it. It is us, and we are it.
8. What does the future hold for Emmanuel Minko?
Promise & growth. In music, in people, in communities, in creation and effective entrepreneurship. Here, everywhere & beyond.
I am also working on a project that is called "TO LIVE ANOTHER DAY", with extremely talented Gabonese producer Ricky Beatz. Outside of my singles, projects with various structures, my songwriting work with various artists & labels, and my bookings, it's the most important thing to come."
Hope you're doing well.
Looking forward to hearing back from you,
