Jenise Davis' Kitchen
Food, Fashion & Style at WWSC's "Celebration of Life" Event
Copa: What will be the delightful selections for the evening?
Jenise: We will be having the following: * Grillled Lollipop Lamb Chops Garnished with Herb Kissed Shitake Mushrooms * Blackened Salmon * Grilled Baslamic Vegetables * Roasted Bite Size Potatoes * Peppers Stuffed with Curry Black Eyed Peas (Vegan Option) |
Copa: We have no doubt your food will set the pace for the evening. You have a great reputation for hosting some of the best Dinner Parties in the Washington, DC area. When did you discover that you had great culinary skills and who taught you?
Jenise: Thank you! I knew at a very early age that I had culinary skills.
As a child, I would follow my mother's every move in the kitchen -- watching and learning intently. At the age of 12, we used to cook and sell dinners after Friday service at the Islamic Center on Massachusetts Avenue. There would be a line around the block and we’d sell out in minutes.
Not only did I get my culinary abilities from that experience, that was my first taste of entrepreneurship on a small scale.
I knew that I had taken my culinary skills to another level when I made my mom a lobster stuffed with crabmeat, shrimp and scallops and her response was “who taught you how to cook like this!” I was proud and flattered all at once, as she laid the foundation for my skills in the kitchen.

Copa: What does the future hold for Jenise Davis?
Jenise: Oh my God, that’s such a loaded question!! Where do I begin?
Generally speaking, keeping on the path of upward mobility by learning, growing and taking calculated risks in areas where I am diligently setting out to accomplish fiscal year milestones. This essentially includes manifesting the life that I want for myself, while simultaneously creating and maintaining a healthy balance. You’ll have to stay tuned for all of the specifics! 😊
