"Elimination or Elevation"
Life’s struggles can cause us to feel such unimaginable pain that we believe we will never recover; however, the struggles we face pull out of us strength that we did not know was inside of us and reveal to us greater wisdom to navigate life. Struggles come not to eliminate us but to elevate us. To handle the pressure and heat from the spotlight in the elevated place, struggles serve as the gift that comes to prepare us. One of my favorite songs is “Strength, Courage and Wisdom” by India Arie. She sings, “Strength courage and wisdom, it’s been inside of me all along.”
Those lyrics ring true to me as I reflect on a painful experience I had in 2016. I realize that, that experience served as a catalyst that has turned into a mission to serve humanity and into new and amazing unforeseen opportunities.
At this year‘s Congressional Black Caucus Foundation 2019 Annual Legislative Conference (CBCF ALC ’19),I will moderate a panel entitled: Domestic Violence and Strategic Community Alliances. In my faith tradition, scripture records that “all things work together.” I will also be featured in the ALC’s Author’s Showcase promoting my book, “Is He Spiritual?” that chronicles my journey through my struggle in 2016. I am a walking example of all things working together for good. If you are in a struggle, please know that the struggle has come to elevate you, not to eliminate you. Continue to walk with confidence, and be determined to be your best and look your best. Your struggle is a gift, even if you don’t want it.
In the name of Faith and Fashion, Love God, Serve Humanity and Do It All In Style.
Blessings,
