"Inaugural Style"
Every four years Washington, DC gets ready for one of the biggest nights in town, the Inauguration. Politics aside, I’m going to give some great tips for looking glam for all the upcoming inaugural events!
For these monumental red carpet and black tie events you will be photographed so I do advise the ladies to hire professionals for hair and makeup. Whether you decide to hire a pro or do it yourself here are some guidelines for looking your very best!
Once you choose your gown and accessories the next step is deciding how to wear your hair. Makeup should compliment the style of your formal attire and hair style, pulling it together!
The hottest looks on the red carpet this season for hair and makeup are sleek and simple updos, like a high or low ponytail or chignon bun with a center or side part, and complimentary makeup! To accentuate this elegant chic hair style the makeup should be simple yet polished with a sophisticated edge. Flawless looking skin with a matte texture, neutral eyeshadows, luscious lashes and liner, softly defined brows, and a great red or burgundy lip will wow them! I love Motives Liquid to powder mineral foundation with just a touch of the Motives luminous translucent loose powder to set the makeup. Apply the powder sparingly to achieve a matte effect without looking dull or dry.
If your gown calls for a softer hairstyle with flowing waves or curls, or a more romantic updo that isn’t as sleek, the makeup should reflect this style. Focus on the eyes, with a smokey eye that is a bit softer, using a neutral palette. Different hues of browns or grays give a sultry yet soft twist to the much adored smokey eye! You can add a hint of gold, bronze, or silver shadow on the lid to give it some depth! Metallic eyeliners are hot this season as well! So many cosmetic lines now carry beautiful metallic eyeliner pencils! My favs are Makeup Forever, Mark Jacobs, and Laura Mercier! They come in array of shades from coppers to golds to blues and purples! Just use these as an accent color under the eye or the little triangle of the outer upper and lower lash line! This really makes the eyes pop!

With this updated version of the smokey eye, adding a little more color to the cheeks and lips keeps it soft and balanced! I love rose or soft pink tones with this particular smokey eye! Another really hot trend this season is adding shimmer as an accent for highlighting and/or bronzing to sculpt the face! This will give you a dewy glow and can be a final touch to any makeup style, unless you are wanting a matte finish. My absolute favorite product for achieving this is the Anastasia Glow Kit! They come in a variety of shades and are fun to experiment with! They can accent your cheeks, nose, or eyes! The possibilities are endless!
Here’s to looking fab on the red carpet as we head into a new year and season!
