"Do You Fear Change"
Summer is here, and everybody notices the changes. Not only is there a change in the weather, but people also change their clothes and outer appearance. Light airy blouses and shirts replace sweaters and jackets;sandals replace boots;and light colors and floral patterns replace darkclothes. Some may add a fresh set of highlights to their hair that reflects the sun’s powerful rays.
While it can be necessary and fun to change our appearance, the changes that really matter the most are those that occur inwardly. An inward change also requires that our thinking changes. Life’s seasonal changes often require a change in our thinking. As I navigated through law school this semester, I learned that I had to change my way of thinking. My professors often complimented my work, but they frequentlyadmonished me to spend more time developing my legal analysis. In other words, to focus more on the thought process itself. I was so narrowly focused on getting to the right legal conclusion, that I did not spend enough time developing how I got to the conclusion. I realized that the only way I was going to be successful was to change the way I thoughtabout an issue or legal problem. Is there anything about your thinking that should change? Are your thoughts hindering your success? Are you allowing negative thoughts or the fear of what could happen overwhelm your mind? Is your way of thinking hindering you?
Change can be scary and difficult, but it can also be necessary. We often get stuck in a rut and continue to do the same thing every day and miss great opportunities because we fear change. In my faith tradition, scripture tells us that God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and love, and a sound mind. Our thoughts are powerful and can have a positive or negative effect on how we navigate through life’s opportunities. Challenges are opportunities that afford growth. Changing how we think about our opportunities or business and personal relationships can help us reach our highest, fullest, and greatest potential.
Don’t be afraid to change how you think because on the other side of that change could be your greatest blessing and your greatest victory.
