Mikell Reed Carroll NYFW
~ Behind the Scenes at NYFW with HiTech MODA ~
Models were far more diverse than most NYFW shows; ranging from children to models in their 60’s and of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities. Madeline Stuart, a world-famous professional model with Down Syndrome from Australia even graced the HiTech Moda runway and helped to showcase the diversity embraced by HiTech MODA. There were four shows that took place on Saturday February 8th and I was lucky to be cast to walk for two designers in the Saturday Evening Regen Runway show and the Couture Runway.
The first designer I was cast to model for was Juan Pablo Martinez, a sustainable fashion designer from Bogota, Colombia. His designs are fresh street styles made from recycled and re-purposed soccer jerseys. Also showcased with Juan Pablo’s designs were beautiful and brightly colored up-cycled handbags from Carro of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The second designer I modeled for was MM Milano, a Filipino designer out of Milan, Italy focusing on beautiful evening gowns with unique details and menswear in bright colors with fabrics not often seen in classic menswear. I have to admit I wanted to buy most of the stunning gowns she showcased!

The shows were run with precision detail by Ms. Pamela Privette and her talented production team showcasing sustainable and eco fashions from around the world. This season some of the proceeds were donated to benefit wildlife affected by the Australian wildfires as well as in support of a sponsor, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Press from around the world covered the event and its After Party, also held at the National Geographic Encounter and attended by models, designers, producers and scouts.
I am honored to have been a part of this NYFW event and hope to participate again in the future. It is not often a 42 year old mom of two gets to model high end couture designs at NYFW and be glammed by some of the best hair and make-up professionals in the industry! I am so thankful for HiTech MODA and the International Ms. Pageant for such a unique opportunity, as well as Juan Pablo Martinez, Carro and MM Milano for trusting me to showcase their stunning and unique designs.
HiTech MODA presents a great opportunity for models, designers and fashion lovers to take part in a first class NYFW experience while also making a difference by supporting sustainable fashion and climate change initiatives and I highly encourage everyone to check out their 4th season coming in September 2020.
