Amanda Linton Reports:
In this week's news, we seemed to have covered the gamut of what every political leader tries to avoid. We struck Syria after President Trump announced the troops would be leaving, his personal attorney had his office, home, and hotel raided, the Deputy Attorney General has come to terms with being fired, and oh by the way, James Comey is starting his book tour.
To any other administration, this would be the start of the end of a Presidency, but with President Trump, this is much different. Every week, or even, every day, there appears to be breaking news stories on the hour. How does this administration stay afloat with all these controversies.
As I get ready to volunteer for our soldiers, I am reminded of what they must be dealing with. How is their morale when one day you think you are leaving Syria, only to find that they are striking harder than last year. What about North Korea? What about ISIS? What about Iraq or Afghanistan? To be clear, I love my country. I love our troops. I am in favor of war when it is absolutely necessary. What it necessary to go to Syria? In my opinion, yes. The fact is, we, the United States have a moral obligation to save the innocent people there. The attacks from Assad are nothing new, but Congress needs to be involved before we wage a full fledged war with them.
Michael Cohen, President Trump's personal attorney has had a pretty tough week. On Monday, his home, office, and hotel was raided by the FBI. This sent shock waves through the country as this appears to be a separate investigation from the Mueller one. Why was he raided? What does he know? As we found out, he was involved with four payoff scandals involving Stormy Daniels, Karen McDougal, a doorman, and now a GOP Mega donor. This calls into question. How many more scandals was he involved with? Could these findings lead to federal or state charges?
President Trump was said to be infuriated with the raids and even spoke to Cohen yesterday. He taunted the idea of firing Rod Rosenstein, the Deputy Attorney General as well as special counselor, Robert Mueller. Moreover, Rod Rosenstein came out and is even prepared to be fired. If this should happen, we will have crossed a constitutional crisis that I'm not sure will be salvaged. Republicans have stressed and instructed Trump not to fire him or Mueller, but we know that this President will do what he perceives is in his best interest.
James Comey, former FBI Director and nemesis of President Trump has his book out and is making his way through the media circuit. What did we find out? He is holding nothing back. He is going full disclosure of his encounter with Trump and is expected to be a firestorm for this administration. One way you know your party may be in trouble is when you launch a PR attack on someone who served our country for decades and oh by the way, he was a member of your OWN party. I will be watching the interview and reporting after.
In conclusion, it seems like now would be a good time for the Republican Party to decide when they are going to stick up for our country. They need to ask themselves how much more are they willing to fall to defend someone that doesn't seem to reciprocate. It's interesting how someone who demands loyalty, finds himself unable to be loyal to anyone but himself.
