Copa: Where are you from?
Sheila: I was born and raised in Washington, DC. Later, I moved to Frederick, Maryland 15 years ago. Copa: Where did you attend school?
Sheila: I'm a graduate of Eastern Senior High School. I also attended The University of the District of Columbia, later,I graduated from Strayer University. |
Copa: At what time did you become interested in fashion and style?
Sheila: I've been a fashionista since I was very young. Fashion is how I communicate. It's part of my personality! Fashion is art! Fashion allows me to express myself and be as dramatic as I want. Fashion makes life more beautiful than it truly is by making people look and or feel more beautiful than they otherwise might. It's like art! My love for fashion inspired me to start my woman owned shoe boutique. I like the personal experience I have with my customers, some who became friends.

Copa: Have shoes always fascinated you? If so, how?
Sheila: I was a shoe fanatic at a very young age. I always had to have the latest styles from elementary and now into my mature years. My mom was a shoe fanatic as well so you can say I get it from her. One of my spare bedrooms was turned into my personal shoe room; where I go in and admire all beautiful styles and colors. Sometimes I would sit in that amazing room for hours. Copa: When did you establish your footwear business?
Sheila: "Shoe Fanatic by Sheila" started over 5 years ago. I started out selling my gently worn or new shoes from my private collection. I personally own over 400 pairs of shoes; so many of those were never worn, so I decided to downgrade a little. Instead of me selling them on Ebay, I was encouraged to start a FaceBook Group and sell them there. Once I got that group up and running, I started getting requests for different shoe sizes. What started out as a simple act of sharing passion, turned into an affordable online business. Shoe Fanatic is a place where you can shop for traditional and trendy shoes. My slogan is "Let me help you find your sole mate." |
Copa: In your personal opinion, why are shoes important to complement the right look to a dress or outfit?
Sheila: There is no question that a woman's love for shoes goes beyond her outfit. A woman's love for shoes has the ability to lift her mood. It's a confidence thing - the same feeling you get when getting a new hairstyle...you feel good about your look; which means you feel great about yourself!

Copa: What varieties of footwear do you carry?
Sheila: "Shoe Fanatic by Sheila" has a wide variety of styles from, casual, office, out on the town and many more. Sizes range from 6-11.

Copa: What does the future hold for Sheila Smaw and her world of fabulous footwear?
Sheila: I have given this a lot of thought lately. My next move is to start a Subscription service. One of my main goals on my bucket list is to design a shoe. That is a big dream of mine.
