Copa: Do you feel that the wonderful Art of Jazz is still vibrant and alive in Washington, DC?
Hazel: I believe the Art of Jazz is still vibrant in DC; the problem is that jazz is not advertised as much in the newspapers or magazines. The Jazz community usually disseminate information about what is happening in the city and venues through Facebook and other avenues of social media. My passion for music, especially for Jazz is why Vince Evans and I produced my Jazz CD of the American Standards. Jazz is beautiful music that takes one to another place. |
Copa: Copa: In your personal opinion, why don’t we have a major 24hours FM radio station dedicated to any sort of Jazz?
Hazel: I really think that a lot has to do with demographics and money that the stations want to bring in as their revenue streams. There are some stations still around, but not as many.

Copa: What does the future hold for Hazel Mitchell-Bell and her precious world of musical entertainment?
Hazel: I am looking forward to touring, performing in several Jazz festivals and basically sharing my music with the world. I am looking forward to getting back in the studio again before the end of the year to work on a new music. My CD is entitled “Stronger Than Ever” has been selling and playing on several radio stations to wonderful reviews. The CD Release Performance was an overwhelming success with standing room only at Westminster Presbyterian Church where Blues is performed on Mondays and Jazz on Fridays. |
