Daniele Cooke
1. Where are you from?
I am originally from Manhattan, New York. Although, I have resided in the DC Metropolitan Area for some time now, I am still a proud New Yorker and even to this day, still have my NYC area code. But I must admit, the DMV area is beginning to grow on me a bit.
2. What schools have you attended?
I graduated from Howard University School of Business with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and received my Master’s in Business Administration from Trinity Washington University.
3. At what time did you first think about becoming a model?
Modeling has always been something I’ve been interested in, but I just never thought it would be something I could do. I’ve always loved fashion and been a lover and student of the performing arts for as long as I can remember but modeling always just seemed like an impossible dream. I remember as a little girl, every time I would get a new piece of clothing, I would model it for my family. It wasn’t until I decided to do a birthday photoshoot that I participated in my first modeling workshop. I figured that I would pick up some good tips and maybe use them to take some nice birthday photos. But my model workshop coach saw something in me that I never even saw in myself. She looked me dead in the eye and said, “you are a model”. In complete disbelief, I just thanked her for the compliment and moved forward with my photoshoot. Never would I have thought that birthday photoshoot would be the first of many and the beginning of my model journey.
4. When was your first break and where?
My first fashion show was the Macy’s Spring Fashion Show in Springfield, VA. That same morning, I also had my first big photoshoot. The combination of these two opportunities led to more opportunities and gave me a glimpse into the hard work and determination it would take to move forward in the modeling industry.
5. What was your most memorable photo shoot and where did it take place?
My most memorable photoshoot would have to be my first. It was the photoshoot I did for my birthday at the Las Vegas Studios in Las Vegas, NV. Although, the photoshoot was only meant to provide me with a few nice photos on my birthday, it ended up being the beginning of my modeling journey. After seeing the photos from the photoshoot, it was the first time I saw myself as a potential model. I remember being in shock and disbelief that the photos were of me.
6. In your opinion, what is your philosophy on fashion and style?
My philosophy on fashion and style is to always stay true to yourself. Anyone can put on a piece of clothing or wear something that stands out in a crowd, but it’s not until you add your own personal touch that truly makes it fashion. I believe fashion is an art and it’s always been my opinion that the best artworks are those that represent the artists themselves and not just cultural trends. I love fashion that has a touch of sexuality, originality, personality, and lots of flare.
7. Fashion shows are usually interesting, what was the title of your best fashion show and where did it take place?
Fashion shows are definitely interesting. I’m always amazed at how much work it takes and the amount of people involved to create a successful show. My best fashion show will have to be my most recent, which was NYC Live! @ Fashion Week for New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020. Not only was it my first time walking in New York Fashion Week, but it was also my most challenging show, and above all else, it was the first time my mom saw me walk down a runway. Being a New Yorker especially from Manhattan, New York Fashion Week has always been something I kind of feared. I just never wanted to feel like I failed in my own hometown. I think when you leave home for the first time, there’s always a fear that you’ll have to come home because life didn’t go quite as expected. Therefore, it was important to me to return home feeling like a master of my craft. But many times, opportunities don’t come with an expiration date so I knew when the opportunity presented itself, whether I felt I was ready or not, I would have to take it. And so, I did. For the first time, I walked for a top NYC designer in a show that was live streamed and most of all, my mom once again, like when I was a baby, was there to see me take my very first steps.
8. Who are your top 3 models?
My favorite models are Naomi Campbell, Iman, and Grace Jones. They’re all just classic beauties who paved the way for so many models and to this day leave their legacies and trademarks on the runway.
9. Who is your favorite designer?
My favorite designer would have to be Christian Siriano. Not only does he make fabulous clothes, but I also admire his ability to see a woman before her size. As the youngest designer to ever win Project Runway, he has built his career designing beautiful clothes for woman of all sizes and nationalities. Fashion is an art and therefore, everyone should be able to enjoy it.
10. What does the future hold for Daniele Cook and her world of fashion?
I honestly don’t know what the future holds. I have been so amazed and learned so much from this awesome journey. I am very grateful for every opportunity I have received. It’s taken a lot of hard work, determination, and sometimes even facing my fears to even reach this point in my life. I truly enjoy modeling and I’m going to continue to work on expanding my portfolio and brand and seeing how far it takes me. I am a true believer that every day I wake up with air in my lungs is another day I have been blessed with a purpose. It’s important to make every day count so you’ll definitely see more of me in 2020 and in the next coming years.
