Some people believe that after a certain age one should just take it easy and not be able to live the life that they desire. Many of us don't pay any attention to this belief, one of those are Dana LaMarr Tolson Blake. Let Dana demonstrate how to be "50 Plus and Fabulous!"

Copa: At what time did you discover your sense of ‘style?’
Dana: I always wanted to be a star... so I tried to be stylish like my Mother Mary Bernadette Tolson(former chief of staff for council member Marion Barry) & her friends.

Copa: Please tell us about your experiences in acting.
Dana: I (along with the rest of my cousins) have been a "ham" since I was a child.... always being asked to "perform" for and at family functions so acting seemed a no brainer... so I acted in school plays and did talent shows when I could. I also participated in tryouts for the Air Force Tops In Blue.... my cousin Kim Coles (of In Living Color & Living Single) is my inspiration; she is an actress, comedian, motivational speaker, she also used to model some too and she is a super happy/positive person.. I want to be like her... In May I was in my 1st stage play since I was in school and I'm about to start rehearsals this month or another one in October.

Copa: Modeling, when did you first give it a try?
Dana: If you ask my friends they will tell you I was born in heels and was modeling amniotic fluid and umbilical cords in the womb LOL.... but seriously, I started as a child modeling in local children's shows, Then went to Wendy Ward Charm School, then did hair shows for people like Barry Fletcher and Cliff Booker, I worked for Rock Newman and Kenny Leonard as a member of the knockouts (ring girl) for local area fights...in 2008 I became the first active duty member to be in the Mrs. Arizona America Pageant. Now that I'm retired from the Air Force ive been pursuing modeling (print and live) I did my first professional photo shoot with photographer Eric Carver and I loved it!

A short story for you all. Dana lived one house apart from me as a child. We all knew she would one day be a run way model either in her 20s or in her 50s. She had a distinct avantage over most I must say she could walk in 6 inch heels in gravels if you can imagine that one. Boy from my house to her house she would switch them hips like it wasnt nothing from her house to mine and back across in 15 yards of gravel. Now have that contest ladies and im sure she would win hands down : )

I personally have met Dana on a women's wounded warrior retreat in Aspen, Co and we hit it off right away, she since has become a good friend of mine. She brings so much to the table (humor, class, wisdom, beauty, and so much more) when she walks through any door. I like that she expresses so much in this article about not only being sextand feeling good about ourselves as women, bit we should never let anything stop us from doing what we want on life. There are opportunities we just have to reach for them and looking as good at 50+ like she does, I have to ask, "Where do I sign up?" Dana is a true inspiration.

This was a superb article. There aren't a lot of other magazines that focus on African American women after fifty. I truly enjoyed reading and funding out some interesting facts about being over fifty. I've got 8 more years until I will reach that milestone. Now more than ever I'm looking forward to seeing how my adventure will begin. The pictures were great and Dana is simply beautiful. I have recommended a few of my friends to read this article so that they know that you too can be fifty and fabulous. Great work Copa Style and Dana is an absolute Beauty. Congratulations!

Great piece Dana. I've grown up around strong beautiful women all my life that defied the "you don't look your age" myth.
You just cosigned what I've grown to learn, that knowing your worth and taking care of you brings out the best you presented to the world.

Wonderfully inspirational article! As I quickly approach the half century mark it's great to know that there are others who haven't bought into the perception that life is all down hill after 40. Ms. Blake is tangible proof that one can not only be 50, fit and fabulous, but also active, innovative, and industrious. I salute her and everyone else who defies expectation. I'm quite comfortable in saying that there are plenty of women half her age who can't compete!

Earlier this year I had the distinct pleasure of meeting the lovely Ms. Dana Tolson-Blake and I must say, she is a diamond in a sea of gems! Some people you meet but can't remember, others you meet and can't forget. Dana, by far, represents the latter. Armed with a magnetic personality, a dazzling smile, and a true flair for seizing the moment, 'Dana Tolson-Blake' is destined to become the next great name in both the fashion AND entertainment industry!
