Copa: Where are you from?
Theresa: I am a proud native of Washington, DC,
Copa: Have you always been a great ‘communicator?’
Theresa: I’m pleased to report, I have been cured from the disease of speech anxiety. Earlier in life, I found it challenging to speak and deliver a message with clarity. My palms would be sweaty and voice trembling anytime I had to speak publicly. I received my healing when I decided to educate myself by self investment. (Side note, there is a cure for everything) I increased my reading, hired a speaking coach and when I spoke regardless if it was a one on one or to an audience, I postured myself as if I was speaking on stage. Embracing intentionally and discarding laziness of language is key.
One may possess a gift to speak at birth, however that gift requires nurturing and development. When you are committed to the maturation of your gift, you’ll seek a coach or mentor. My first speaking coach was the legendary Les Brown, he taught me the power and passion behind speaking. After you speak, the members of the audience should walk away feeling better about themselves but talking about you. Thereafter I worked with Delatorro McNeal, he supported me significantly with the business side of speaking. How you present yourself on stage, you should be 10 times better in business.

Copa: In your own opinion, what would you say would be your biggest asset where it pertains to helping others.
Theresa: One of my biggest assets… is my gift of encouragement. My mom is the ultimate encourager, although she doesn’t use much honey with her delivery. Encouragement serves as a required ingredient in my coaching and speaking practice. Here’s a great way to understand the potency of encouragement. Just think for a moment, if everything from people, places or things in your environment all rallied together to encourage you to complete a big project. What are the chances of you moving forward to completion? Extremely high correct? Exactly, well what you must understand is you possess the ability to build a strong sphere of encouragement. Be conscious, that everything around you exemplifies encouragement. This is how you guard access against negativity and discouragement.

Copa: How would you describe the value of commitment?
Theresa: Allow it to be your reason and not your excuse. One thing I enjoy doing is working out (not really) yet I understand the power of our words. So, I’m growing in this area. When it’s time to work out, I could think of several excuses not to work out. However, the resilience in commitment is shifting that same excuse into a reason why I must work out. It’s that simple. We must get to a point where we stop overestimating the process and underestimating ourselves. The only limit to your forward movement is your commitment.

Copa: What is your philosophy concerning successful habits in business?
Theresa: Be steadfast, anchored and always abounding in work. What I have discovered in coaching senior level professionals is sometimes there is a failure to remember the presence of discipline. At times, I may ask “What frustration seemed to come up last month?” The response roughly 30% of the time centers around discipline and consistency. Habits are birthed from the womb of discipline. When you brush your teeth daily, that’s a habit… you are consistent and you have discipline in that compartment of life. After walking in a renewed mind, we experience breakthrough. The next step is to work together in the distribution of that same discipline to all compartments of their life. It is possible.

Copa: What are the titles of some of your books and what are the subjects?
Theresa: My first book was published out of the need for parental guidance. I found myself attracting parents in need of steps and solutions to impact their children’s academic and social achievement. I would spend time running through steps to help them improve behavioral challenges, classroom modifications/ needs and a host of additional objectives. As a result, I gathered all of that information and placed it in my book “Parent Code of Conduct.” Students have a student code of Conduct now we have one as well. I also co-authored a 90-day devotional “Daily Dose of Direction for Women in Business.” I’m currently working on my third book scheduled to be released 3rd quarter of this year. Theresa: I truly did not choose this profession. Remember, I did not have a desire to speak initially. I’m happy, I got over myself and embraced my assignment. I discovered your YES is tied to thousands receiving their breakthrough. I started out part time until one day I donated my job back to the economy. With the unwavering support of my husband (Omar) and my board of directors (comprised of successful professionals), I am enjoying this journey of contribution. Some of my speaking topics are Built to Dominate, The Power of Moving Forward where I share strategies to completing lingering projects, 7 Steps to Forward Movement and Forward Leadership I discuss the rewards of utilizing the TACT system (Trust, Assurance, Collaboration and Time). My website (www.theresaRproctor.com) highlights the details of my main topics as well. |
Copa: We see that you have a number of upcoming events, would you please share them with our readers?
Theresa: Yes, we have a number of upcoming events… from the WHSV Thrive conference in VA , local training courses, the P3 luncheon in North Carolina. However, it’s best to sign up on my website to stay connected … www.theresaRproctor.com. |
Copa: How important is faith in your life?
Theresa: Without faith it is impossible to please God. Above all things, my priority is to please God. My faith journey started under the ministry of Apostle Abraham and Loretta Mitchum. There I learned about the purity of life and the rewards of honor.
Everything we do in life requires faith. My spiritual parents Apostle Mike & Dr. Dee Dee Freeman have taught me how to live by faith. Walking by faith and not by sight, acknowledging God and not leaning to my own understanding and using my life to advance the Kingdom of God has served as the nucleus to my personal fulfillment. You can’t pour out of an empty cup. I desire to not only pour from the cup but as a result of the overflow, I sow into the lives of others from my saucer.

Copa: What does the future hold for Theresa Proctor and her continued commitment to others?
Theresa: I will continue to revive, realize and release forward movement in the lives of others by walking in my purpose.
I am excited about all that the future holds for myself and those I’m assigned to… You can be the designer of your life or the victim of your circumstances. I’m proud to say I live an amazing life and I’m grateful to God for the opportunity to help others build their amazing life too!
