Photography may be considered to be the most important segment of the Fashion industry, the final image for presentation. This is what actually sells the garment in print or electronic media before the public can see it in a fashion show or showroom floor. The Photographer is in complete control of the critical look and atmosphere which will influence interest and stimulate the sale of the clothing or product.

Copa: When did you develop your interest in Photography?
Ali: I hail from a family of doctors, engineers, and businessmen, but the photography genes run strong amongst us. I've grown up surrounded by stunning shots of wildlife (read Snow Leopard!) in Asia and Africa to breathtaking pictures taken 26,000 ft above ground level at some of the tallest mountain peaks in the world by my uncles and cousins. So the love interest began at a very young age and I started experimenting with my Dad's 35mm camera capturing nature and people through the lens.

Copa: When shooting do you develop a particular theme or do you let things develop during the photo session?
Ali: I'm two different people during the pre-shoot and in-shoot phase. I'm a planner and like things to be organized, so I always like to discuss the shoot in advance to ensure it is well executed and we have everything that we need to make it a successful shoot (model, wardrobe, location, makeup, theme, etc.). Once I start a shoot, i'm a different person and let creativity take over and encourage and help my models to get creative as well.

Copa: What is your philosophy to photography?
Ali: Photography is a form of art. It's a skill. Photographs tell a story and they take you back in time and bring back those memories. Anyone can click a camera, but clicking at the right time and seizing that moment is what matters the most.

Copa: What is your technique for bringing out the best with models in your photo sessions?
Ali: Every model that I work with, I pay attention to details such as their features, skin, body type, expressions, etc. and I take few test shots to get a visual of how they look in camera. Also my idea is to make the model very comfortable and relaxed; the more comfortable they are with the photographer, the easier it gets to work together and the end result is amazing pictures.

Copa: What would be your ultimate location to shoot?
Ali: The moon, the Amazon, Sahara.

Copa: Lighting, how do you use it to make your photographs special?
Ali: Lightening is a technique and once you understand the concept it becomes fun to play with it. I'm a big advocate of natural light but I also use strobes when natural light is not available or I am trying to create special effects.
