The MGM National Harbor Ballroom was transformed into a mesmerizing wonderland on Saturday, July 29, 2023, as the much-anticipated WeModel USA 2023 Fashion Gala and Charity Event took center stage. Stepping into this enchanting affair, I was instantly captivated by the beauty and grandeur that surrounded me. It was as if the pages of a fairytale had come to life, a world where elegance and purpose intertwined seamlessly.
The event was nothing short of awe-inspiring, with a dazzling array of over 50 Pageant Queens gracing the occasion, representing not only the DMV area but also beyond. Congratulations to Patricia Watts, the visionary Executive Director of WeModel, for orchestrating a high-profile fashion event that not only rolled out the red carpet for its guests but also showcased the exceptional talents of professional designers. What made this event even more commendable was its overarching goal to raise awareness about the harrowing crime of Human Trafficking – a critical issue that demands our attention and action.
Mayor Cashenna A. Cross and Global Ambassador/Program Advocate led a poignant panel discussion, featuring courageous women who bravely shared their personal experiences with human trafficking. Their stories served as a stark reminder of the urgency to combat this heinous crime and protect vulnerable individuals from falling victim to its grasp.

As the evening progressed, the spotlight shifted to the runway, where the audience was treated to the awe-inspiring designs of Fanny Mpwo, an International Designer hailing from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mpwo's creations were a breathtaking celebration of Congolese culture, each piece a tapestry of artistry and heritage woven together. The runway came alive with a diverse array of talented performers and child models, who added an extra layer of charm and excitement to the showcase
Throughout the evening, I had the privilege of interacting with numerous engaging and warm-hearted individuals, all united by their passion for fashion and their commitment to supporting the cause of WeModel USA. It was truly heartwarming to witness a community come together to celebrate creativity and beauty while making a tangible difference in combating a grave social issue.
The WeModel USA 2023 Fashion Gala and Charity Event was more than just a glitzy affair; it was a powerful testament to the potential of fashion to bring about positive change in society. By blending elegance with purpose, the event not only left an indelible mark on the fashion industry but also inspired us all to be catalysts for meaningful social impact.
In the end, as the last model graced the runway and the applause filled the air, it was evident that WeModel USA had succeeded in its mission. It had not only raised awareness about the horrors of human trafficking but also offered a glimmer of hope – the hope that through collective efforts and unwavering determination, we can create a world where beauty, talent, and compassion reign supreme.
