To the fashion industry the art of makeup styling is a serious matter to say the least! Without their artistic skills to enhance and create that special mood and atmosphere the photographer at a shoot or a designer at a show cannot accurately interpret what they wish to project. Enter Marta Bota, Makeup Artist. She is one reason that keeps the standards high in the world of makeup styling!
Fashion, Beauty, Style from BK to the DMV!
When I first moved from NYC to the Washington, DC Metro area, almost two decades ago, I went into fashion culture shock! But a lot has changed and DC is evolving and becoming a much more fashion forward city! Growing up in New York City conditioned me to be aware of fashion and style from a very young age! New Yorkers tend to artistically express themselves through their fashion/beauty choices. Anything goes in NYC and you will see quite a variety of fashion and makeup styles on the streets on any given day. From Goth to sophisticated chic, it’s all there on the streets of my hometown. Growing up in such a fashion oriented city made me have a life long appreciation for style, glamor, and I love people watching as a result!
As a professional freelance makeup artist I have an extensive background in different mediums, and in different areas of the beauty industry. I began my career applying makeup for fashion shows in NY, as well as editorial work. I have many years experience doing makeup for television, bridal, special events, portraits, teaching makeup lessons. I have worked in different cities and have met the most fascinating people along the way! I love to make note of the differences that each city has when it comes to fashion and style! There are many differences, when it comes to trends, between NY and DC. At first it took a little getting used to, as my style was more eclectic and bohemian in my youth. The New York fashion scene is really varied and there is more freedom of expression. Trends that are right off the runway hit the streets of NY immediately, this is not the case in DC. Washington, DC has a more conservative, corporate style of dressing and is not as hip and trendy. I do believe that the DC fashion scene is evolving.
Fashion week is growing in DC! What makes DC Fashion week so unique and interesting is that there are so many International designers from many countries throughout the world, not just the larger ones like Japan and Italy. DC Fashion week also promotes local designers, as well as charity organizations throughout it’s Fashion Week events. The models on the DC runway are more natural and healthy looking and I think more women can relate to the fashions that are displayed at DC Fashion Week. I think the growing interest in fashion in the DC Metro area may have something to do with the current administration. The First Lady has a modern fashion style and her hair and makeup are always current and impeccable! There are also so many charitable organizations based here in DC and on any given night there are fundraisers, black tie and red carpet events! This lends itself to being fashion conscious! It is an exciting time in the DC area as these changes are taking place. I know that, as a makeup artist, I encourage my clients to be more open to experimenting with different looks and am making a difference in getting women to feel comfortable with being a little more glamorous! I look forward to contributing my beauty, fashion, and makeup tips and advice in Copa Style Magazine! www.mbfacedesign.com
