Laura Dorsey
~ Author/Educator ~
1. Where are you from?
I was raised on Long Island, New York; however, most of my adult life was spent in Detroit. This is where I was married and had children. I moved to Florida to take care of my mother and grandmother, but recently, I have retired and relocated to Maryland.
2. What schools have you attended?
I started my education at Detroit Business Institute. Both my BS & MA are from the University of Phoenix, and the EdD is from Nova Southeastern
3. At what time did you develop your flair for working with people?
I have always worked with people. While in the finance arena and education arena, I have always dealt with people. It just made sense in my own business to help people.
4. What did you do after leaving school?
After my first degree, I left corporate America as the Assistance Vice President of Trust Operations and entered the education arena in administration and as a faculty member.
5. When did you establish your first business?
I established my consulting business in 2008. However, I did not aggressively work on the business until a few years ago.
6. How would you describe your special skills?
I think that I have the unique ability to see what people want to say about themselves or the topic, and I can put that desire into writing. Hence my tagline, "capturing your voice, expanding your reach".
7. We understand you have co-authored an interesting book. Please tell us all about it.
This was an amazing project that 19 other women got together to share with the world the extraordinary things that we are doing in our lives while in our 60s.
8. In your opinion, do you think more women should embrace their inner desires in their 60's?
Yes, of course, that was the premise for the book. But more than embracing our desires is the thought that we should share where we have come from and where we are going with the next generation. The story is no good unless you tell it.
10. What does the future hold for Laura Dorsey and her wonderful world?
I am just so open to whatever God has planned for me at this time in my life. I am blessed enough to have a daughter and son-in-law who allow me to live my best life. I look forward to more involvement in my philanthropic work and community activism. Of course, I will continue to write; however, I will limit my projects to only those that bring me joy and that I am passionate about.
