Belinda Queen
~ Part One ~
~ Prince Georges County District 6 Candidate ~
Copa: Where are you from:
Belinda: I was born and raised in Prince Georges County, Maryland. Copa: What other offices have you run for?
Belinda: I've done so many things, I've been PTA President, I've worked with many schools, this has been my main foundation, I've served on the Democratic Central Committee and ran for that position in 2014 and served to 2018. I ran for the Board of Education and served from 2018 to 2022. |
Copa: What is your view on the Public Works system in your district?
Belinda: Public Works is extremely important to public safety on the roads as we walk and travel through our communities, this includes bike safety as well.

Copa: Why is education so important to you?
Belinda: 60% of your county tax money goes toward education. The kids in our schools will become the next doctors, lawyers and functional members of our community. This is why we must give them the best possible tools they will need to succeed. Now is the time to do that for them. Copa: Do you have anything to say about the importance of small businesses?
Belinda: As small businesses flourish our community flourishes as well. We must remember that those are your dollars that support your neighbors with important goods for their households. The more business leads to better support, products and services for everyone to use in different ways from restaurants, grocery stores, clothing shops or any location that serves the community's needs. Another thing, we have to have affordable wages for our residents. DC and other cities pay a minimum wage of $15 per hour. All of these elements help to grow our county. |
Copa: What more can we do for the elderly?
Belinda: Well, most seniors live on a fixed income, the price of apartments are very high. We must do the responsible thing to be sure the cost of apartments maintains a reasonable monthly rate that won't impact the quality of their lives. Senior housing must stay affordable. Also, I'll be sure that we monitor the frequency and quality of the services our elderly citizens receive. Taxes for our seniors is another issue that must be focused on. Also, if you've lived in a house for over 60 years you shouldn't have to continue to pay taxes on your house forever. More programs must be developed so more seniors will be able to comfortably 'age in place.' They grew up here, they aged here. They've earned it.

Copa: What can be changed about Day Care services for kids?
Belinda: On thing that was suggested to the Prince County school board is to enroll the young kids in school earlier. School should start with 3- and 4-year years of age while their minds develop the fastest so they will learn more. Day Care and Public Schools must work together to make a good impact on our youth. Our biggest issue is a child who been in daycare or at home before 5 years of age must fight to keep up with learning smoothly. Day care providers must be be provided with the most up to date educational techniques to help with the child's development.

Copa: How have the kids been doing the past 2 years with this COVID-19 situation and other variants?
Belinda: In my opinion we have had some kids who have done so much better by learning from computers at home. We have a diverse society and we have realized that there are different type of programs for different children, it's up to us to figure it all out to see which ones work best for the individual child.
