Copa: Where are you from?
Erica: I was born and raised in Washington, DC.
Copa: When did you start writing?
Erica: Since I moved around from school to school I was not able to hold on to many friendships. So I was able to find solace in writing. I started writing at a very young age. Maybe to young to even remember.
However as most young girls I started writing daily events and scribbling in my journal. Those events turned into thoughts and feelings. Then eventually into poems. Now stories.

Copa: What schools have you attended?
Erica: I have attended nearly 10 schools with the Washington, D.C. area. I am proud graduate of Eastern Senior High School. Shout out to DC Public School, and Dave Chappelle. Copa: What is the title of your new project?
Erica: The title of my new project is entitled "Mothers's Day." Copa: Is this something you've had on your mind for some time?
Erica: Yes. And, no. It project started as a joke I shared with a family member. I told the joke for nearly 10 years. Fast forward 7 years later (i.e. 3 years ago) while out with a close friend of mine I shared the story. They threw me a life line and told me that I was sitting on an actual story. I also have an additional project, called "The Love of One". This project started from a story another good friend shared with me. I used my imagination to push its limits and "The Love of One" was born. Copa: How do you develop your subject matter?
Erica: I developed the subject matter for, "Mother's Day" by creating a TV treatment and registering the stories with the Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) and the Library of Congress. I stretched out the characters and linking them to other characters to build upon the suspense. |
Copa: Who is your favorite author and why?
Erica: I have read a variation of books, unfortunately I can not say I have a favorite writer. However, in the arena of suspense and controversial story lines and building characters I would to add that I credit Lee Daniels, Roger Bobb, Tyler Perry and of course the revolutionary Shonda Rhimes for being so inspiring.

Copa: Do you believe there is a possibility of a television series or film production?
Erica: Of course! I am excited about my projects. I just need the right connections to get my story on screen and/or television. I am certain that with the right connections and writers from WGAE the story would be another 5 year series.

Copa: Have you ever considered to be an actress?
Erica: Yes, I have. I have actually had an opportunity to be an actress in two independent films, "Boss" and "Boss 2".
I am not sure how good I was. But, I am receptive and available for more opportunities.

Copa: If this project moves into production on film which city would it be based?
Erica: "Mother's Day" can be based in any city. But to shake things up, maybe Boston, MA.

Copa: What does the future hold for Erica Mahoney?
Erica: That's a very good question. I see myself writing and developing more stoies and collaborating with some of the top producers. Because in addition to Mother's Day and The Love of One, I have another story I need to complete. I have been floating under the radar long enough. It is time for me to be on the map.
