Reardon D. Sullivan
For
~ Montgomery County Executive~
Copa: Where are you from?
Reardon: I was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I moved to the city of Rockville, Maryland in 1966. Copa: What schools have you attended and degrees you've acquired?
Reardon: I attended Wootton High School in Rockville Maryland. Earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Maryland while working full time in retail. Studied for MBA in business before starting my consulting firm. I am a professional engineer (PE) registered in 12 states (similar to a CPA), a LEED accredited professional with expertise in GREEN design, and I have been qualified as an expert witness in building codes. Copa: Who were the people in your past who were the most influential in your life?
Reardon: My father. When I was growing up in the 60’s life was not easy if you were black. My father brought us to Maryland to secure a job in the federal government. He worked his way up from GS-5 to being one of the first Black SES in the Executive branch. I can’t tell you the number of times I saw him working late into the night after taking care of his family. He was a true success, unfortunately he passed away in 2013. |
Copa: At what time did you decide to run for Montgomery County Executive?
Reardon: I watched the early debates and realized that the candidates where not getting it. They avoided the key issues that most voters are concerned about including public safety, education and economic development in the county due to the poor record of the incumbent party. I felt that the voters deserve another option and filed two days before the deadline. What we see is that many voters are unhappy with the current county executive. Over 60% of the Democrat voters rejected him in the primary election. The independent voters did not vote in the primary. If you look at the voters that did not support Elrich, the independents that tend to break Republican and of course the Republicans I have a real chance to win the election. Copa: Please share with our readers how you will make a difference for Montgomery County?
Reardon: The key points in my campaign include public safety, education, and economic development. First, we need to properly fund the police (vs defund the police as the current leadership has), we need to work with our educators to tone down on social justice and ramp up STEAM (Science Technology Engineering, Arts and Math) while giving parents complete transparency regarding what their children are learning, and we need to bring jobs back to the County by making the county more business friendly. |
Copa: When did you establish your business and please tell our readers a little about it?
Reardon: I established my firm, WFT Engineering, in 1995, after working for 5 previous engineering companies. I observed that most engineers only looked at the details and not the big picture. There was also a reluctance to embrace technology in the design side. I started out, doing commercial interiors and later labs at NIH and higher ed work in the public sector. I just celebrated 27 years in business. Copa: At what time did you decide to run for Montgomery County Executive?

Copa: How will your experience be applied in the position of County Executive to help solve present issues? Reardon: As a business owner, I bring a unique perspective to County Government. Instead of being a lifelong government employee, I know and understand what the everyday citizen feels and fears…. Public safety, education and having a good paying job. Transportation is also something that the citizens are concerned about. |
Copa: What is your plan to help the Montgomery County Police to perform their jobs more effectively.
Reardon: First we need to properly fund the police (vs defund the police as the current leadership has). We also need to provide stipends to first responders so they can live in the County
As noted above, we need to work with our educators to tone down on social justice and ramp up STEAM (Science Technology Engineering, Arts and Math) while giving parents complete transparency regarding what their children are learning, and we need to bring jobs back to the County by making the county more business friendly.
