Copa: What circumstances brought you to this area?
Flami: My Mom was a Hairstylist , she had always traveled from Ethiopia to Italy, so she later on moved to the States, so it was around 1985 when we moved here. So basically, that's the reason we traveled to here from Italy.

Copa: How old were you then?
Flami: I was about 12 or thirteen.

Copa: What is it about eyebrows that makes you so famous?
Flami: My idea about 'brows' is that I'm just very natural with brow shaping, I don't do the quick hair removal. It's more than just a business for me, I am very particular, not to say that other people don't do a good job. I do a lot of educating with my clients when it comes to over plucking or waxing or if they have wonderful eyebrows how to maintain them.

Copa: What is your philosophy of beauty and makeup in general?
Flami: Basically it's pretty simple, everything must be natural from makeup to eyebrows with the option to 'jazz' it up and have fun with trends depending on the occasion. Wardrobe and hair builds character, and they both go hand in hand. So if it's a Bride or someone on the Red Carpet, a birthday or business meeting the makeup goes accordingly. It could be natural or dramatic or a little bit of everything.

Copa: How would you describe your individual style?
Flami: I kind of like plain things maybe dress them up with pieces of costume jewelry that reflect the setting of the salon. So people that know me say that it reflects my home including the way that I dress. As you can see how I might wear plain clothes and put on a piece of jewelry...I just like to dress things up a little. |
Copa: Tell our readers about Fyubi, What does the name mean?
Flami: Fyubi has two different meanings, it translates into Flami which is my name and Yubi which is my Mom's name which Yubi. The other meaning is a little more business related, in stands for Find Your Unique Beauty Image. It came to me at the same time and it's exactly what I do.

Copa: How do you like your location here on 'U' Street here in Washington, DC?
Flami: I absolutely love it here on 'U' Street, I'm coming here after being in Georgetown for 3 years. After working in Penn Quarter and DuPont Circle, this by far is one of my favorite neighborhoods that is 'up and coming', the support I have received in the area has been tremendous. Resident as well as business owners have given me so much great attention.

Copa: How would you describe your clientele?
Flami: Well I would describe a large part of my clientele as very successful corporate women, CEO's, attorneys you name it. Women that work in the White House, on Capitol Hill. They have so much fun here attending special events, galas or black tie affairs on any given day.
