China Wilson
~ Attorney at Law ~
~Entrepreneur ~
Copa: Where are you from?
China: I was born in Newark, New Jersey. Afterwards we moved to the DMV area, when I was about 9-years old. Later when I grew up I moved to Prince George’s County, Maryland. Copa: Which schools have you attended and what degrees you have earned?
China: * I attended Northwestern High School in Adelphi, Maryland. * (Bachelor’s in Business Administration), Strayer University * (Juris Doctorate) University of Baltimore School of Law in Baltimore, Maryland |
Copa: At what time did you enlist in the US Navy and did you enjoy your experiences as an Aviation Electronics Technician?
China: I enlisted in the Navy in September 1994, however I was in a delayed entry program, and didn’t actually deploy until January 1995. I enjoyed my experiences in the Navy because I met people who were from different areas across the country, I learned how to live on my own, and away form family and it taught me discipline. I would have never dreamed that I would be working on F/A-18 Hornet aircraft. It certainly wasn’t a dream job, but it was one of many options as an Airman in the Navy to choose. I didn’t get to travel the world because my enlistment was short lived (3 years), however I was able to enjoy a few deployments on an aircraft carrier, which is one of the busiest ships in a Navy fleet because of the ongoing flight operations.

Copa: What is it about the law profession that gathered your interest?
China: I always liked advocating for others, or fighting other people’s battles as my friends would say. I always thought I would end up in the Human Resources field. However, when I had to take a required business law course in undergrad; law piqued my interest. I knew pursuing law would be challenging, because I was a single mom raising two boys. But, with support from family and friends, I was able to achieve my goals.

Copa: Who was the most influential person to you in your early life?
China: Honestly, no one.
China: Honestly, no one.
Copa: At what time did you acquire your entrepreneurial spirit?
China: I acquired my entrepreneurial spirit after work in the customer service field for more tan 20 years. I knew there had to be some more to life than simply reporting to a 9 to 5 job. At some point working a regular 9-5 became mundane, and it started to suck the life out of me. After passing the Bar Exam, I decided I no longer wanted be an employee, and to started working towards becoming a solo practitioner.

Copa: Please tell our readers about your amazing products at Lavish Crown?
China: I started my own hair care product line called Lavish Crown. I chose this name for my line, because our hair is our crowning glory and, and it deserves the royla treatment. Although, it is safe enough to use on all hair types, I specifically formulated it for women of color, because it is difficult for us to find products on the shelf that promote healthy hair. My products are made using only all natural, certified organic ingredients. My products are handmade, and there are no harsh chemicals and they're also formulated to promote healthy, stronger, longer hair. My product line currently includes a hair & scalp serum, and a moisturizing hair butter ( that can also be used as a body butter), however I plan to add other products such as shampoos, and conditioners in the near future. |
Copa: What does the future hold for China Wilson and her interesting life of Law and Business?
China: Hmmmm, I don’t know where to start start with this question because my mind is always jumping for one idea to the next. Right now I am focusing on growing my law practice. Right now I’m a solo practitioner, however I hope to bring on an Associate (preferably someone newly Barred), within the next year or two.
I also plan to actively promote my hair care product line, and add more products. I’m currently in the process of formulated a shampoo that moisturizes, and promotes healthy hair growth.
I definitely see a bright future ahead of me, and I am dedicated to staying focused so that I can continue to build my family's legacy, and break those generational curses.
