"Guiselle Ramirez-Lema"
By Rodney Wayne Branche
Copa: What did you think about Northern Virginia?
Guiselle: Well, on television, you see all of the tall buildings but when you get here the flow of traffic is incredible. There are so many cars! I arrived here at night, it took a little while to get adjusted. It's my home now and I love it.

Copa: When you arrived, what was the first thing you wanted to do?
Guiselle: I was 17 and not very sure about what I wanted to do. Back home I remember looking up at the stars and knew that I wasn't supposed to be there, I had to go somewhere else. It was like something was calling me to go somewhere else.

Copa: When did you get the idea to become a model?
Guiselle: I always wanted to become a model, since I was a child I seemed to love photography. Things were kind of hard for me because my Mom and Dad were divorced when I was 7 so it was difficult to follow my dream so I went to work in a Lawyer's office early while I attended school. There I earned a Business degree and studied Phycology, afterwards I moved here to the US. One thing I understood is you can follow a dream but you still have to work while you are making it happen.

Copa: What was your first modeling job?
Guiselle: I was in a local pageant, I was invited to several different events. The next thing I knew I was on the runway and really enjoyed the experience meeting new people. It was like a fire and incredible things started happening over and over.

Copa: Do you remember your first photo shoot?
Guiselle: Yes, it was in Florida. It took place right on the beach.

Copa: Were you nervous?
Guiselle: Not really, when I am on the runway or a photo shoot I absolutely enjoy modeling at different locations, it's very exciting. When you love something it becomes natural to you. Copa: What type of modeling do you like the most?
Guiselle: Actually, I love print modeling, you have plenty of time to get the work done. You are not rushed to get the product or garment out. With runway modeling there is a time limit and sometime everything doesn't run as smooth as you like for it to be. |
Copa: What is your philosophy on Style and Fashion?
Guiselle: I love the idea that people can express themselves, if you are comfortable with what you are wearing you should shine in it. This is very important, your character must be able to flow. I would describe my style as sexy but classy. I'm not the sort of person who is very trendy. Every trend would not fit me very well. My style reflects how I feel.

Copa: How did you meet your husband, Carlo?
Guiselle: We met in Hawaii, I was on a trip with friends and he knew them. I was having a great time enjoying the beaches and beautiful views of the area as a group. When I retuned home he informed me that he would be finishing up at Stanford and wished to stay in touch with me and requested to see me in Virginia because he had some connections there. I thought this was a bit odd but agreed with it. The next thing I knew we fell in love and 20 days later we were married! |

Copa: When were you make the decision to become a contestant for the title crown of Mrs. DC America?
Guiselle: I made that decision because I wanted to do something big for my community, I need to acquire bigger credentials. Why Mrs. DC America? This is the place where I live and work. To broaden my horizons I must reach high.

Copa: What platform will you be running on for the pageant?
Guiselle: My platform is maintain a healthy mind, body and spirit. Happiness must come from the inside. You just can't be beautiful on the out side and leave the inside out. You might get away with some things but it must be a complete balance in your life in order to feel different and be a better person. You must feel this way to do better things for your community.

Copa: How are you preparing yourself for this important pageant?
Guiselle: The most important thing to do is continue to do great things for your city and the surrounding area. I'm also blessed to have my husband to help out by keeping up with the kids at home. I notice that the more I give the more I get in my life that helps me become a better person. I'm always doing something in the community, even if it's not seen by the public. It's not all about being recognized. By doing this I'm not just opening up more doors but I'm also making other people aware of the situation that we have. Sometimes we have what we need and we are not grateful. Sometimes we need to listen to people that just need a little love, all we have to do is listen and let them know that someone cares about them. |
