Tim Bradley
1. Where are you from?
I am originally from Miami, Florida, however, I’ve been living in the Washington, DC metropolitan area for the past 30 years, whoa, I have been here that long, lol.
2. What schools have you attended?
Coral Gables Sr. High - Miami, FL
Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ ( BA in Political Science)
3. What encouraged you become interested in the fashion industry?
Simple story: In 1995 I was in the Springfield Shopping Mall looking for a party shirt. I found one that I really liked but noticed hundreds of the same shirt on the same rack and the thought just hit me. I will teach myself to make my own clothes and I persevered until I got it right, and still learning.
4. What was the first garment you created?
ROFL...It was a short sleeve shirt, it was a blue/green polo style shirt. Rodney, I could barely pull it down over my head , it was super tight and the sleeves were different lengths. I only wish I had kept it, because I just remember standing in the mirror and laughing so hard how silly I looked in that shirt.
5. How did you feel when you sold your first item? At what time did you establish your business and create your first clothing line?
Good question, I sold my first garment at a fashion show in 1997 and I didn’t have a reaction, because I was too tired just putting that collection together that I wasn’t phased by it. I just remembered being excited and extremely tired at the same time. Nonetheless, I do remember that dress, it was this long wrap burnt orange rayon dress with orange leaves all over it. I had a business about 10 years ago, no one bought anything so I closed it but continued sewing. For various reasons I didn’t sew for the past 4 years, but now that I am closer to retirement I am reorganizing and preparing for the future. I am working on two online sites ( Square Space and Etsy) to reduce the overage. I am excited about going full time and spreading my brand everywhere. My very first clothing line was in 1996 and premiered at a show in Baltimore, MD. I will re-post those pictures one day too.
6. How would you describe your particular type of style?
I would say my forte is evening wear but I have designed in just about every style category. Perhaps I need to show the wide range of the collections I have done over the years, sold some of it, but I did a full jean collection, a men’s line and yes a full size line as well. I am hoping to complete a new men’s line by the end of this year, for which I am excited about.
7. Who are your 3 favorite designers?
Yes, in this particular order, Christian Dior, Alexander McQueen and Gianfranco Ferre.
8. If you had the opportunity, what famous woman would you create an evening gown for and how would you describe the design?
Good question, let’s see there’s plenty so I will just pick one, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. I selected her because I was toying with this beautiful beaded chiffon on the mannequin a couple of weeks ago. It has this sparkle of regal royalty to it, yes fit for royalty. Lol or anybody who wants to buy it.
9. What does the future hold for Tim Bradley and his world of fashion?
Retirement from the federal government in about 3 years from now and then I am going full steam into the fashion world. I have already started the plan, so all I have to do is stick to it. I will say, my future looks promising because God said he would make room for it, that’s bible.
