Copa: Where are you from?
Antwain: I am from New York and grew up in South Philadelphia. Copa: What schools have you attended?
Antwain: I attended Delaware State University (Delaware) and Emory University (Atlanta). Copa: In your opinion what makes a fashion show special?
Antwain: Style, theme, technique and talent to me are four key attributes that make a fashion show great, at least in my professional opinion. They each come together (if executed correctly) to create a dynamic atmosphere and production. |
Copa: At what time did you develop an interest for fashion?
Antwain: I started my interest in fashion at the age of 11 ore 12. I was intrigued by shapes, patterns and color blocking. It caught my eye at an early age. Copa: When and where was your first fashion event?
Antwain: WOW, lol. My first fashion event was in 2003. I held a fashion show at my high school, St. John Neumann for Boys. My Dean of Students allowed me to rent out the entire auditorium at no charge and I put on a fashion show for the community. |
Copa: What is your philosophy on fashion in general?
Antwain: “Always become one with the garment." My philosophy on fashion is to make it yours. Whatever style you have execute it to your OWN understanding and have no regrets. Fashion is like glasses, each of us have our own vision and once you put on YOUR lens, you’ll see and interpret it to your own capacity.

Copa: Tell us about how you chose the theme of your upcoming fashion show “The Assassin?”
Antwain: “The Assassin”! I was at a very closed and insecure mental and physical place in my life while creating this theme. My mind was a playground and my thoughts, well, they were unbecoming. However, I turned what was meant to be bad, good. I spent sleepless nights creating what you will see to be a production of its kind. I’ve learned that we shouldn’t run from our thoughts but turn them into masterpieces.

Copa: What does the future hold for Antwain Donte' Hill and his world of fashion?
Antwain: I pray the world and time is on my side in the future. This show is dear to me because we are donating a portion of the proceeds to Children Brain Injury Research and Breast Cancer Survivors. My or anyone's future isn’t promised but we can dream. In the future I would love to train models for Fashion Weeks worldwide. I want so many models right here in the DMV that have no idea what a model/mannequin should look like and we as Producers don’t even take the time to correct the mistake, we just enable it but pushing ticket sales. My models call me “Coach” and it’s because I invest in their future. I wouldn’t care if it’s only one person in the audience on show day, my goal is to make sure the model learns as much as they can while under my teaching. I pray that my future is bright, even in the dark days. I don’t like to set much for myself but live each day as God intended and that is loving like love is all we’ve got. I love runway, I love fashion and I love teaching models the industry so if that’s in my future, then, a great future it will be.
