Copa: Where are you from?
GiGi: I'm from Southeast Washington, DC, born and raised. Copa: Which schools have you attended?
GiGi: I've attended plenty of elementary schools throughout DC, but I am a product of the prominent Duke Ellington School of the Arts, where I attended before being forced to transfer due to relocating to Maryland. Copa: What did you like best about attending Duke Ellington School for the Arts?
GiGi: The freedom of being oneself. That school taught me to live without fear. |
Copa: When did you become interested in modeling and why?
GiGi: Happened on accident really… while I was performing with national recording star Mya, her photographer for the African tour was also the CEO of the Official Glam Girls. He took interest in my look and asked me to shoot with him. From there I went on to doing video shoots.

Copa: Who was the person in your life that influenced you the most?
GiGi: To be honest, there’s no one person that has influenced me to be who I am and what I wanted to become. I wholeheartedly give that to society and where I was raised. Coming from an environment of so much negativity and poverty, I learned quickly how I didn’t want to live as an adult and what NOT to do.

Copa: In your opinion, why is communicating with people so important to everyone?
GiGi: Communicating is essential in life in general. It’s the only way we can articulate what our wants and desires are. It’s a way of getting to know the unknown. I’m such a people person, so effective communication is very important to me.

Copa: What does the future hold for GiGi Riley and her incredible world of business and entertainment?
GiGi: There are no limits in my future. We just did our first annual Comedy and Crank Show at the world-famous Constitution Hall in Washington DC. We were the first black company from Washington DC to put on a production there in many years… GoGo music had actually been banned from that establishment. We have also partnered with another company to put on their first Annual Cigar and Music Festival which will feature local go-go bands as well as national recording artist Kindred The Family Soul. I'm also currently in the DC Black Broadway production of "Grease with a Side of Mumbo Sauce," where I will be singing, dancing, and acting. In addition to all of this, I’m also currently working on my own album, AND reality series that highlights the lives of prominent people from the DMV. So as u can see, I’ve been very busy trying to defy the odds, by being a young African American woman from SE, striving to be the best I can be as a newly divorced single parent of my 3 boys whose ages are 5,9, and 22. I want my kids to look up to me and say, “This is what success and happiness looks like”!
