Copa: Where are you from?
Dr. Soy: I was born in Brooklyn New York and grew up in Westchester, New York in the town of New Rochelle 25 minutes from Manhattan. 
Copa: Where did you attend school and which degrees did you obtain?
Dr. Soy: I attended Howard University for both my bachelor's degree and my master's degree in Counseling Psychology. I’m also a graduate of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology where I earned my PhD in business psychology. Copa: In your humble opinion, why is education so important to everyone?
Dr. Soy: The Oxford dictionary defines education as the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university. Education is also defined as an enlightening experience. Actually, education is everything, everywhere and experienced by everyone continually. We are always learning. Educators bless the world with formal instruction. One of our slogans at Teachers Festival is “What would the world be without teachers? “ |

Copa: What encouraged you to develop your Teacher Festival and "An Evening of Elegance" event coming up this weekend?
Dr. Soy: I am a third-generation educator, and I began my education career 28 years ago. Those in the field whether in grade school or higher education are often under-appreciated and underpaid but deserve to be celebrated. That’s our mission. Teachers Festival’s mission and vision is to celebrate educators all over the world with feel good events bringing together the community to show our appreciation for their hard work.

Teachers Festival’s mission and vision is to celebrate educators all over the world with feel good events bringing together the community to show our appreciation for their hard work.
Copa: What should the attendees of your marvelous event expect?
Dr. Soy: The Evening of Elegance is our first annual Teachers Ball and fashion show. The festivities will begin with the red-carpet event for photo ops with the DCs elite community, interviews with Magic 102.3 and syndicate radio star Your Radio Love Asia. She will also co-MC the fashion show with Our MC for the night who is Channel 9 WUSA Emmy Award winning sports anchor Darren Haynes. Celebrity stylist Ron Cooke is the producer and Director of the fashion show. He is drawing fashion from DC, NY & beyond.
We jump start the program with an award show announcing the Teachers Festival "Teacher of the Year" and other awards recognizing educators. The evening will also have live entertainment and several spectacular giveaways for both educators and all attendees who come out to celebrate educators.
One of our sponsors is graciously giving $1000 to one of the teachers who is in attendance that evening. Our partners in the community are graciously adding to our list of giveaways every day. We anticipate giving out prizes all night long. The winners must be present to win. The evening will be remembered all year long for the special guests, delicious food, great music, live entertainment, dancing and giveaways. This had been one of the most anticipated events in the DMV. We will absolutely not disappoint attendees! The Evening of Elegance will be worth the wait.

Dr. Soy: This extravagant event will be held at the lovely Sunset Room overlooking the Potomac River in National Harbor, Maryland. The venue use to be Wolfgang Pucks’ restaurant.
The response to this event has been phenomenal. The support of the community and our partners to ensure we roll out the red carpet for educators and our attendees has been impressive. We have dignitaries attending from embassies, area business owners, the North Eastern region fashion world, and educators from various areas of the county joining the celebration to show their support for educators.

We understand that some people may not be able to attend in person, but there are ways to support our efforts to celebrate educators by donating towards an award for a teacher, purchase a ticket for an educator, offer giveaways, and spreading the news about Teachers Festival.
