Maya Clark
1. Where are you from?
I was born and raised in the great city of Baltimore, Maryland.
2. Where are you attending school and what is your field of study?
I am a Junior, English (Pre-Law) and Dance Performance & Choreography Double major attending the illustrious Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. My chosen career path is to become an attorney specializing in Civil Rights, Real Estate, and Entertainment Law. I choose these areas because I will be able to continue my commitment to service by empowering the Black community to defending their civil rights, assisting and providing education in establishing property wealth and protecting their gifts and talents from exploitation.
3. At what time did you establish Indubitable Fitness and why?
During my time as student on the collegiate level I have seen and heard a lot within the various college campus communities. I personally see young women struggling to get in shape, young women (including myself) having a hard time eating right, and most of all and unfortunately, I hear about sexual assault/harassment and other unwelcomed advances toward women that’s becoming a nationwide issue.
I established “Indubitable Fitness” because fortunately, I have always been physically active due to my background in dance and Taekwondo, where I hold a Black belt. It is and has always been my desire to share what I have learned for the betterment of humanity especially women and girls. During this current climate of a global pandemic, I’ve had the good fortune of expanding what I was already doing to reach people all across the world both domestic and internationally.
I believe that health, fitness, safety and security of Black Women deserve the highest priority. Therefore ensuring they are fit means the world to me. “Indubitable Fitness” blends dance and self-defense techniques to build strength and confidence. These exercises actually teach women how to protect themselves from physical assault. Living in the college community, I often hear of stories involving women being assaulted (physically/sexually) and some even sold into sex trafficking. After hearing these stories I felt an obligation to use my talents to empower my sisters. “Indubitable Fitness” is built on three prongs:
4) In your opinion, why should everyone take their health more seriously?
You only live once so you have to take care of the body that you have. Black people and other people of color are at the forefront of health crises in the United States. Many experience illnesses like heart disease and diabetes which are caused or increased by lack of a healthy lifestyle. If you are willing to make simple lifestyle changes you can reverse the damage these illnesses can cause.
5. What's the easiest way to establish a simple workout schedule?
Write out your fitness goals. This affords you the opportunity to acknowledge and visualize what you can gain from working out. I am a very visual person, If I can see it, I trust that it will get done.
Anyone looking for a solid regiment with a consistent routine should follow “Indubitable Fitness” on Instagram for simple 15- minute routines that anyone can incorporate into their day. I promise you will be tight and right if you take 15 minutes each day to work out with me.
6. Would you please give are readers a few good suggestions to maintain good nutrition in their daily lives?
Stop dieting!! I know how that sounds but fad diets are not a good way to maintain a nutritious lifestyle. Instead of trying to “diet” for a week or so, go the extra mile and challenge yourself to eat healthier. Make eating healthier your lifestyle. It takes 30 days for a habit to become a routine. Make the routine your commitment to a healthier lifestyle. Give up something unhealthy each month. For example, give up soda and substitute (if you need one) sparkling water with organic fruit.
7. Please tell us more about what your program offers.
Indubitable Fitness is a program that serves as a safe space for Black women to have a voice in their bodies, well-being, and how they defend themselves.
8. What does the future hold for Maya T. Clark and her wonderful world of Fitness & Health?
Blessings!! Honestly, I have been nothing short of blessed throughout my whole process of curating Indubitable Fitness. With the help of my family, friends and other resources, “Indubitable Fitness” is becoming more than I could’ve ever imagined; for that I am so grateful.
My platform “Girl Power”, is where I speak on sexual assault at HBCUs, self-defense and exercise training, is a movement for young women to feel empowered in their opinions and their bodies. I believe that this will inspire so many young women to beat the odds and always love themselves to the fullest
