Carmen: My family are my greatest inspiration and support and my strength are my parents, brother, grandmother and grandfather. In particular my great-grandmother Carmen Urias de Cajias, was a woman who poured abundant love towards me. Her presence woven the person who I am. My private tutor/teacher Lisa Haskins is a passionate educator with a great heart. Who I met in middle school and through high school motivated me and helped me to attend college. While Attending the University finishing my Masters degree I met a woman who inspired me and who marked my life, an exemplary woman, who cared about the education of every child Dr. Jasmine Jacobs, founder of REACH International. Helping impoverished children world wide to obtain a Christian education. These were the individuals who woven the person who I am today. Copa: Why should education be one of the most important things in everyone's life?
Carmen: One of my favorite quotes is from an ancient philosopher Plato. “The direction in which a man's education begins is what will determine his future life.” - Plato Plato suggests that the “direction in which a person is educated “will determine his or her “future path”, so in history, ancient philosophers discussed the importance of obtaining an education. It is a powerful tool... as well as the values that our parents transmit to us, they open doors for everyone, regardless of gender and socioeconomic level. Education helps every aspect of daily life- learning to read and write connects us and allows us to have a voice and to face other opinions. In my own experience, I emerged from the values that I obtained throughout my life and give thanks to the trust that my parents, grandparents and my great grandmother gave me. I have broken so many barriers in my career and I am blessed to have achieved each of my goals. Copa: How did your artistic side emerge to launch your own business Carmen Jurado Art LLC?
Carmen: My talent in painting comes from my father, as he loved art and at age 11 he took me to see the Van Gogh painting exhibition for the first time at the Washington D.C. Carmen: As an elementary educator who has been working with children and adolescents for many years from different backgrounds in private and public schools. I enjoyed teaching all subjects math, science, reading and writing and history. I believe teaching is a form of art. To transmit a lesson to a child's level of understanding is a form of art. Joyful moments are seeing a student grow physically and intellectually. Teaching a subject that is new is a remarkable feeling. Their laughter , smile, tenderness, their attention, how they think and see the world in their eyes is always fascinating to me. |
