In this wide world of fashion, ladies in particular focus much on accessories to enhance their ensemble for that distinctive look and individual flair that sets herself apart like not other. But there is one particular accessory that function as a necessity in the event of inclement weather...the Umbrella. In this case, the "Bakerbrella!" Shawn Hart is the designer and this is her story.

But there is one particular accessory that function as a necessity in the event of inclement weather...the Umbrella. In this case, the "Bakerbrella!" Shawn Hart is the designer and this is her story.
BBS or Baker by Shawn is a company created to promote and preserve the legacy of the Icon Josephine Baker. Ms. Baker, a legendary dancer, singer, actress, and also a celebrated war heroine. She also was the only woman who spoke at the "March on Washington" in 1963.
After observing countless products with images of Marilyn Monroe in the Marketplace, Ms. Hart wanted to create similar products to reflect a woman of color. Hart who is a fashion illustrator and graphic designer began to apply her images of Ms. Baker to products. Those product include colorful T-shirts, tote bags, posters, and gorgeous vintage styled Umbrellas.
Shawn G. Hart was born and raised in Washington, D.C. Growing up , she was encouraged by her mother, who made sure that she took art classes during her Summer breaks. Hart says she inherited her talent from her father who was a gifted artist who inspired her to pursue art as her career. She received the AA degree for Advertising Design from UDC and a Certificate of Fashion Illustration from Ardis School of Fashion Design; the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Howard University. She travelled extensively in researching her subject an thesis titled "Josephine Baker: Using Imagery to Create an American Icon Through a Framework of Social Identity Theory.
