Copa: When was your first makeup job?
Christina: My first professional makeup job was around 1972 in Germany. I was married at the time and I was also teaching military children in the day and military wives at night.
My marriage wasn’t going very well so I acquired a job during weekends working for Revlon. I had to go to Munich for training for their different products for makeup demos. That was the first makeup job I was paid for.

Copa: What was the next big makeup opportunity for you?
Christina: Later Revlon mentioned to me that they had openings in New York and I could work for them there. At the time in the early 1970’s the idea of me living in New York actually scared me a bit so I moved to Los Angeles. Revlon was headquartered in New York and Max Factor was headquartered in Los Angeles. So in LA I approached Max Factor about getting a job with them. I was informed that there were no openings and they asked me if I would be interested in learning how to apply makeup for film and television. My eyes became big because I never thought about doing something like that. I agreed, Max Factor directed me to Joe Blasko’s school where I learned how to apply beauty makeup, special effects etc. His courses were very well rounded.

Copa: How long did you stay in Los Angeles?
Christina: I stayed in LA for about 15 years.

Copa: When did you gather your courage to finally move to New York?
Christina: It’s kind of a strange story, sometimes you’re guided by love. I met this guy and the relationship encouraged me to move to New York.

Copa: What was your first job in New York?
Christina: My first job was working in a salon called Georgette Klinger. That's really not my cup of tea, I'm really into film and television which I did in Los Angeles. I have a Publicist friend who lives in Los Angeles who has a friend who owns a magazine. At the time she was conducting an interview with Geraldo Rivera so she asked me to come to her hotel to apply her makeup. One thing, I wasn't familiar with the lights on the the set of "Geraldo." I suggested if I went with her I could 'touch her up.' After the show we all went out to for a bite to eat and a few drinks across the street. The Executive Producer asked me if I would be interested in working as a regular Makeup Artist for the Geraldo Show. I agreed and this is how I got my foot into CBS in Los Angeles. I had done a bit of free lancing but this would be more steady for me.
After working for CBS, I was upstairs in the makeup room. All of the sudden a woman barged in the room and informed me that I was needed in an emergency.
