Shakira: I am from Prince George's County, Maryland. Born in Washington, D.C., but raised in Mt. Rainier, Maryland. Currently, living in the Glenarden area.

2. What schools have you attended? I attended, Robert Goddard, a French Immersion school located in Greenbelt, MD. Robert Goddard provided me with an opportunity to learn and study the french language and culture from elementary-middle school. I attended high school at Eleanor Roosevelt, where I continued my french language studies and pursued another language, russian. I pursued my undergraduate studies at Mary Baldwin College, in Staunton, VA. As a student, I traveled abroad to several countries to include: India, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and France. I pursued two majors- International Relations and Asian studies, and two minors: Women's studies and Peacemaking Conflict Resolution. Following my undergraduate studies, I pursued my M.A. at the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University. 3. What encouraged you to become interested in International Studies? My personal and academic-related traveling opportunities, as well as the multiple languages I was exposed to growing up in school. My cultural background also inspired me to pursue international studies because I wanted to share my unique diverse background with others. 4. At what time did you develop a love for fashion? I've always had an eye for fashion, but I truly believe my exposure to diverse cultures and languages have deeply influenced my love for fashion. Diverse cultures have diverse styles, and each nation brings a form of unique beauty and style that is so fascinating. 5. Who are your 3 favorite models? Adut Akech Bior, Eden Fines, and Joan Smalls 6. How would you describe your personal style? Classy, form fitting, elegant, editorial fashion 7. What was your first modeling assignment and what was the experience like? My first experience was in the D.C. area and the experience was phenomenal. The photographer was quite pleasant and made the shoot very exciting and fun for me. 8. Are you always satisfied with your photos? If not, why? I am satisfied with most of my photos, but not all. I typically shoot for about 10-15 minutes, per outfit, so if I am able to obtain one great shot per outfit, I am happy! 9.What does the future hold for Shekira and her world of fashion and style? I would love to become a brand ambassador for a clothing company that specializes in editorial fashion. It would be ideal to continue my journey working with photographers outside of the DMV area, expanding my portfolio to cover areas internationally, participating in more runway shows, and achieving multiple publications.
