Black History month has always been met with great anticipation as we take a look back at the great accomplishments of people of color.
Contrary to the misconception held by some groups of our society, the amazing accomplishments of African Americans reaches an innumerable level.
Unfortunately, the books in the majority of our school systems only skim the surface of these accomplishments. It is our personal duty as parents to take it upon ourselves to search for books that will open the eyes and minds of our children . There were amazing accomplishments in the Medical field and Beauty field that the majority of our people are not aware of. It is
truly astounding to say the least. As a student in school, I have memories of discussing Martin Luther King. This is not stated to diminish the great works of this great Civil rights figure at all.
The point I am making is that I do not recall any other figures discussed.
It is so important that we instill a sense of pride in our children by exposing them to the accomplishments of their ancestors. There is so much violence and injustices in our society that unfortunately our children cannot see that our people are still making great strides to improve this world. It is up to us as parents to help make this change. A change that requires the efforts of society. There were many of our ancestors that were millionaires. They achieved their fortunes by hard and honest labor. There are many of our people today in our society that have achieved the same status through hard work and sheer determination. Education is still the most powerful tool that we must instill in our youth. In society our people must develop a stronger since of unity if we are to become greater as a community and a nation. Our ancestors have created the path for us. Now we must follow and continue to give appreciation and honor to them.
