Copa: Where are you from?
Phyllis: I'm from Chicago, Illinois. Copa: Which schools have you attended?
Phyllis: I attended Roosevelt University with a focus on Marketing & Business as I really favored these two subjects. Copa: At what time did you discover that you were great at communicating with people?
Phyllis: I discovered as a little girl that I was more outgoing than others in my age group. I began to model at a very young age in my teens. I was also a Prima Ballerina, as a matter of fact I was the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker (the onstage performance in Chicago). I have always been fascinated by people all kinds of people. Copa: Tell us a little about your interviews.
Phyllis: I feel that the true excitement and joy from interviewing Artists or Bands is that often times they prefer not to do one on one interviews, so being able to get them to open up and talk about themselves personally…everything from their music to their family and everything in between is true enjoyment for me. But also including in my interviews what their fans want to know about them. Interviews can be challenging especially when you are working with people that are not comfortable being interviewed- and being put under time restraints makes it difficult and is pretty intense at times. In most cases, for example for a concert interview, the interviews are done onsite prior to the concert, so we are really limited with time. I make sure I have done all my homework ahead so I am prepared and therefore I really know the questions I am going to ask. My goal from the inception of my brand until now is create a warm and inviting atmosphere with the artist as if we are sitting in their living room. |
Copa: How long have you been in the business?
Phylliss: For over a decade now I have been working in the industry. I created my brand ‘Front Row Phyllis upon realizing at that time there wasn’t an outlet that people can go to when it came to music and getting to know there favorite artist and bands. I take the viewers and listeners behind the scenes and backstage at some of the biggest concerts, festivals and events as well as covering the Red Carpet interviews during some of the biggest award shows. |
Copa: In your opinion, what makes your interviews special?
Phyllis: We cover most of the biggest concerts, festivals, theater openings and red carpet events. I have truly been blessed to have been with and interviewed some of the biggest names in the music industry. Some of my favorites include; Dolly Parton, Imagine Dragons, Kelsea Ballerini,
Cheap Trick and Tony Bennett just to name a few.

Copa: What does the future hold for Phyllis Klein and her world of marvelous interviews?
Phyllis: Our plan for the future is to maintain the direct one on one with our artists.
