As we all know by now, social media is buzzing with the recent news of a huge confrontation between CardiB and Nick Minaj.
This news was extremely disappointing to me. Here we have two beautiful and extremely talented music artists involved in a wild altercation at a distinguished New York Fashion Week evening event for Harper's Bazaar.
It's time for this madness to cease! Whenever a new up and coming artist starts to rise on the charts should be a great time for celebration.
Seasoned music artists should find time to uplift newcomers and encourage them to excel at all times. There is so much jealousy and hatred in the music industry today brought on by intense competition. When you're secure and confident in who you are as an entertainer, there's very little time for hating. Having a reputation as a difficult and temperamental artist can destroy your career. Producers won't give you the time of day. Our ancestors lost their lives and shed blood so that many would have the right to express ourselves through music, writing, even protesting when we feel that there's an injustice taking place. Would you really want to taint the lives of your young children?
Let us not forget that not long ago when bold Civil rights leaders marched and many lost their lives so that we could enjoy everything around us in America. Is this how we thank them, by fighting each other as professionals in the music industry? Slaves were beaten and lynched for learning how to read! The music industry has created their own lynch mob in a strange sort of way to knock down competition. There are so many sick and dying children that would love the opportunity to receive a visit from their favorite artist. They're women being beaten and raped everyday who could use these influential music artists ample financial resources to seek counseling and support...let's make it happen! There are many that give back to their communities tremendously, thank God for them and we need many more.
I can promise you that if as much energy were put into worthwhile causes, there would be less fighting and killing. It's not too late for us to make a united stand! To avoid confrontations, sometimes we must bow out gracefully. For those of you with children, is this the type of legacy you want to leave them?
