"The Ying Yang Leather Swing Coat"

This vintage style coat was designed from the inspirations of the 1950’s. The bottom has a full flare which some call it the Swing Coat. The full sleeves also accent the bottom flare. In our time, the present, very rarely will you see a coat with full bell sleeves and a full flare bottom but with the Ying Yang coat you will. With the specific design aesthetics, it creates drama, and the red lining gives it even more life because it is unexpected.
The Ying Yang Leather Swing Coat is made of soft sheepskin leathers. The top is accented with white leather and is made with an asymmetric design which flows onto one sleeve. I designed the coat to be a solid black color and to only have only half of one of the sleeves with the white. With this it created more drama.

To build more contrast, I decided to add a white belt to create blocking for those who desired more drama. A black belt was also created with this design to keep more of the simplicity and to have the white on the top of the coat to stand out more. I also decided to add 6 buttons to the coat, originally, I was only going to put 4 buttons but because the coat was long, I wanted to have additional closure for the cold nights. The red lining was a last-minute change. Originally it was black, but I felt the red would be more of accent color and of course to create more drama. With every step you see a flash of red. We add red accessories to pieces when we wear black and white together, so I decided, why not just make the lining red. This was a great decision confirmed by many social media responses. In addition to this amazing piece, I also created and designed The Ying Yang Diamond Leather Clutch. It is a diamond shape design which is also rare to see these days. The clutch is a handbag made of the same color combinations. The outer is made up of black and white sheepskin leather as well. The inside lining is also red. It is stitched on one side and the other side has an opening with a magnetic closure. Inside of the clutch also has a zipper compartment. |
