​In the heart of the nation's capital, the year 2023 marked a milestone for fashion enthusiasts as DC Fashion Week celebrated its 20th anniversary. This iconic event, known for its diverse showcase of talent and style, unfolded over three days, from September 30th to October 1st, and left fashion aficionados craving for more.

​The festivities commenced with a bang as "The Emerging Designers Showcase" took center stage on September 30th. This show was a tribute to "chic décontracté," or casual smart, featuring ready-to-wear, streetwear, resort, and swimwear designers, most of whom call DC home. It was a testament to the city's thriving fashion scene.

​Simultaneously, "The Washington Menswear Collections" delivered an exclusive all-menswear fashion extravaganza. Renowned designers like Alex Risimnic couture, HOK & DJS, Hoodlvm, Magnum Swimwear, and celebrity fashion designer Miguel Wilson graced the event, captivating the audience with their innovative creations.

​On October 1st, the grand finale, "The International Couture Collections," captivated the audience's attention. Hosted by Guy Lambert, news director for WPGC radio and Fox 5 (WTTG) personality, this event featured twelve fashion houses, including notable designers from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ukraine, and the United States. Attendees, including myself, were left in awe as the runway showcased cutting-edge looks from designers like RakoatoByMe, inspired by vibrant Nigerian colors and fabrics, and Corjor International, who closed the show with their upcoming collection, leaving a lasting impression of style and elegance.

Air France took the spotlight as the Presenting Sponsor for both the International Couture Collections and the Emerging Designers Showcase, adding a touch of glamour by raffling roundtrip tickets to Paris Fashion Week. Other sponsors such as Art All Night Dupont Circle Main Streets, OCTME, Smartwater, and Patron contributed to the event's grandeur.

​The DC Fashion Week 2023 was not just a celebration of style; it was a journey that fused French influence with DC's unique fashion landscape. As we eagerly await the next fashion extravaganza on February 23-25, 2025, one thing is certain: DC Fashion Week continues to be a vibrant melting pot of creativity and elegance, showcasing the best of both local and international design talent.
