It is an amazing feat to be successful in the radio industry. Cortney Hicks will be celebrating 20 years of entertaining thousands of listeners around the country with music and information to encourage, inspire and educate. Copa Style Magazine is honored to interview this dynamic woman of radio.

Copa:       Where did you grow up?

Cortney: Detroit, Michigan

Copa: When and where did you develop an interest in the media?

Cortney:  While attending Michigan State University.

Copa: How does it feel to work with the amazing people in radio in Washington, D.C. ?

Cortney:  I love working in and for the DMV community.

Copa:   What would you say were the most important issues you have had to deal with in the media?

Cortney: Ethics, Equal opportunity & pay for women, stereotyping & passing judgment.

Copa: . How would you describe your fashion?

Cortney: I can definitely turn it up but prefer a more comfortable, casual style for every day.

Copa: We recently see that you have completed a great photo shoot, you looked fabulous, what are your make-up secrets?

Cortney: Thank you I don’t have any. That’s why I hire the best! Lol

Copa: What are your favorite shopping locations in the metropolitan area?

Cortney:  Montgomery Mall, Crystal City & Tyson’s Corner.

Copa: When you first began in the media, what person did you emulate?

Cortney: Oprah Winfrey, an early pioneer of the talk show style genre.

Copa: What advice would you give to a young person starting out in the radio broadcasting industry who wishes to be a great professional like yourself?

Cortney:  Study and learn from people who are doing what you aspire to do but choose your own path as there is no set formula for success. Own your journey, be responsible and treat others as you would want to be treated.
