Copa: Where are you from?
Monica: Baltimore, Maryland. Copa: When did you first realize you had a flair for fashion?
Monica: When I was a little girl around the age of 5 or 6. Copa: Was there anyone special who influenced you to begin designing clothing?
Monica: CoCo Chanel. Copa: What was the magic you discovered when learning to design patterns and create you first garments?
Monica: That I could create what I wanted in the style of my imagination. Copa: What schools have you attended?
Monica: Baltimore City Community College, Mass Communications, Graphic Arts, Baltimore Culinary Arts, NOVA Community, certified in Medical Assistance, EKG Tech, Phlebotomy, Medical billing and Coding. Copa: How do you determine which models are right for your individual looks?
Monica: I actually sew with the model in mind. Having several models on hand I can sew what I like and adjust the design towards them. |
Copa: Do you draw your own sketches, if so, what is the average time it takes to develop your initial idea?
Monica: Yes. It depends on how much detail I put into the design. Sometimes it can be done in five minutes and sometimes it can take thirty or more. Copa: When was your first fashion show and how did the opportunity work for you?
Monica: The first fashion show, ASC Fashion Week Feb 2017, was during New York Fashion Week. It came around by I wanted an outside opinion on my sewing and I approached a producer, they said that they only did high end couture, so I submitted some of my other designs and they came back and asked if I wanted to be in their fashion show. |
Copa: How would you describe your signature style?
Monica: I would describe myself as modern vintage. I like the way the vintage style looks and I design it with a modern edge. With the edge you are still able to tell which era the style came from.
