Copa Style Magazine Interview Questionnaire:
1. Where are you from?
I was born in Greenwood, Indiana. I would say I have three homes though, because of where life brought me: Indiana, Germany, and Virginia.
2. Which schools have you attended?
I received two bachelor's from Indiana State University, my master's from the University of Illinois, and then I moved to Stuttgart, Germany with a Fulbright and finished up my studies at the Hochschule and Universität.
3. At what time did you become interested in Modeling?
In 2002, before I finished my studies, I began modeling for some bridal salons and photographers in Stuttgart for some extra income. I'm a very artistic person (music, painting, design, etc.), so I always had an interest in modeling and photography, but never pursued it until then.
I have been interested in fashion, since the end of high school, and a lot of friends told me to consider reaching out to photographers in Germany. So it just took off from there.
4. When was you first memorable photoshoot and where did it take place. I would say my most memorable was in 2003 for a styled bridal shoot at the Bodensee. The landscape in southern Germany is so lush and pristine and everyone involved was so nice. Sadly, I don't have any copies of the shoot, but it's in my memories, so that's okay.
5. How would you describe your special style and chemistry with photographers?
I think chemistry with each photographer is a bit different, honestly, because it depends on their personalities and styles as well. But I would describe myself and have heard from most photographers, with whom I've worked, that I exhude a simple, classy elegance. But most photographers recognize that I'm a great actress and quite versatile as well, so I can help to bring a lot of styles and themes to life for their shoots. I also have a talent to help with styling, due to my love for fashion (and huge closet), so I tend to collaborate very well with most photographers, when they share their vision with me.
6. Who are your favorite 4 photographers?
Oh goodness, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, so I'm going to refrain from answering this! I don't think I could narrow it down to four anyway. I enjoy any photoshoot where we enjoy our time together and make art come to life.
7. Who are your favorite 4 models of all time and why?
Twiggy- eclectic style, fun and authentic. I just always love how she stood out, while others just tried to fit the mold.
Iman- she is a amazingly beautiful and classically elegant. I also loved that she helped pave the way for black women in the modeling industry.
Linda Evangelista- I remember tearing out pages of her in magazines in the 80's. She is so versatile in front of the camera and helped to redefine high fashion.
Kate Upton- I quite simply like her style, but also that she, along with others, has helped to open up the industry to women of many body types. I believe in "healthy" body positivity, and she is a great example of this.
8. What does the future hold for Jessica and her world of Modeling & Style?
Well, I plan to keep it as an enjoyable part of my life and take opportunities as the come. When I moved back to America in the late 2000s, I started my financial planning business, so that will always take top priority. I love my clients and I love being able to help them daily. But the artistic part of me needs to be fed! So I will always leave room for making more art with amazing photographers.
