"The Business of Fashion"
By Rodney Wayne Branche
Copa Style Magazine Publisher/Editor-in-Chief
Copa: In your opinion, how would you describe the importance of the business of fashion in America and around the world?
Jenise: I think the business of fashion is very important, especially to those who are aspiring to be in the industry. I think knowing the ins and outs and all that it takes to be successful in the fashion industry is a must! It’s time to demystify the glamour behind the business acumen when it comes to fashion.

Copa: How would you describe your personal style in the areas of casual, dressy and athletic?
Jenise: I would describe my personal style as what makes me feel good. In a nutshell, I love to play up my curves, whether it be dressy or casual. It depends on the time of day and what I’m doing! I have a different style for athleticism than I do for a night out on the town or just hanging out with the girls. It’s all about perspective and how I feel! |
Copa: Do you feel that clothing designers perform a good job of keeping up trends or just rehashing earlier styles?
Jenise: I think it depends on the clothing designer. Some designers do a great job at differentiating their product to appeal to a certain segment of the population! And I also find that some designers just rehash the same style by adding something different hoping that’ll sell. I think having a strategy is paramount to be successful in the fashion industry. Knowing your target audience can set you apart from your competition! Copa: How should emerging designers obtain a better way to get their clothing introduced to better markets on a national scale?
Jenise: I think emerging designers would benefit with creating a distribution strategy. Part of that strategy is knowing who your target market is, and forming a strategic alliance with larger fashion houses who have the same ideals and values. Partnering with a larger, more experienced, fashion house, would give the emerging designer an opportunity to learn the business and leverage the customer base of the larger fashion house. The emerging designer could become a sub brand that would fit into the ideals of the major brand, but would be separate entity. |
Copa: What did you walk away with from your experience after functioning as the Moderator of the Tower Fashion Show this Friday evening?
Jenise: I look to walk away with more knowledge about the panel, who I am in awe of. I also look to walk away with a support base of people who will discover another side of Jenise Davis and how passionate I am about everything that I do! |
