Traveling From Washington to NYFW 2023

The dream began last Thursday when I was dropped off at Amtrack. I made it to the station twenty minutes early. This gave me plenty of time to pick up items from the station’s convenience stores. I won’t mention that I purchased numerous things several days prior to departure, including audible books, a copy of Elle magazine, bottled water, healthy snacks, and Tylenol. I was not feeling ill, but you never know when a headache might strike. After purchasing last-minute items and a light breakfast snack, I was well prepared for the adventure ahead.

Finally, the arrival gate for my train was posted. Down the escalator I went. I found my car. An Amtrack porter grabbed my suitcase and placed it above my head in the luggage rack. I was ready for my three-and-a-half-hour ride from Washington, DC, to New York City. Just my luck; no one was seated next to me. I got comfortable, turned-on Spare, and relaxed as Prince Harry told his story. I watched the terrain as it gently glided by my window, taking me back to another place in time.
Before I could get comfortable, I heard the conductor call out, “The next stop will be New York, Moynihan Train Hall.” The train pulled into the station; I gathered my belongings and headed to the door. Stepping onto the platform, I was struck by the hustle and bustle of the terminal. People talking filled the air, and I could smell the scent of hot dogs and pretzels wafting from station vendors. I took a deep breath and savored the moment, grateful for the chance to visit New York City as a Fashion Week Runway model.
I made my way to the exit, rolling my suitcase behind me. When I stepped outside, I was greeted by the bright lights of New York City. Taxis and buses rushed by, and people of all shapes, sizes, and colors bustled past me on the sidewalk. I felt like I was in the center of the world. I hailed a taxi and headed to the Embassy Suites. As we drove through the city, I took in all the sights and sounds, mesmerized by the fact that I was one step closer to the catwalk. I made it into my hotel. There was no time to waste because the designer was holding an all-white party that evening.
The event was a beautiful affair, with lovely people and good food. Designer Amna Inam presented awards to some of the models, including myself. After dinner, we headed back to the hotel. Some called it a night, while others enjoyed the nightlife. The following morning, we started early. Friday began with a trip to the hairstylists and make-up artists, all located within the hotel. This was followed by a trip to the jewelry suite. Once the preparations were complete, we made our way to Gotham Hall. Gotham Hall is an exquisite event venue located in the heart of New York City, offering a stylish and sophisticated setting for special occasions. The platform features several areas in which shows can co-occur. It is hard to believe that between Friday morning and Saturday evening Randhawa Brands successfully hosted three fashion shows and I was fortunate enough to walk in one of them. Dreams do come true!
