Elise Muller interview Copa Style magazine.
Can you tell us briefly about your career as an Actress and Model? Well, I began my career acting and modeling as a child with dream. A dream to one day act out terrific stories and make people laugh and hopefully bring some joy or sorrow? My mother and I would always watch movies and T.V. shows together. She loved movies and so did I. So, I went a theatre camp ,did theater in high school then went on to college and got a B.F.A. in Acting/Directing and a double minor in Radio Television and Art. After I graduated college, I started modeling in downtown Chicago and started auditioning for acting roles. I represented Illinois in The Black Model Finalist to which I was one of 15 nominated in the US. I then moved to Los Angeles and started booking TV and film roles and modeling for big brands and magazines.
Where did you grow up and where did you go to college? I grew up in the North Shore of Chicago. First in Glencoe we lived for a short time with my grandparents. Then my mother and I moved to Northbrook. Where we resided until I moved to Los Angeles. I went and graduated from The University of Arizona.
What was your first acting role? I believe my first role was the shoe VR Tropers as “The beautiful GIRL” LOL that was the name of the character. Or It might have been ,Valley of The Dolls? A bigger part that stands out was Diagnosis Murder.
What type of roles interest you? I love comedy that’s really my forte. Dry humour and improv. Although, I do like a good drama too with some layers and meat to it!
Who inspired you to act? My mother because of her love for the cinema.
What are a few of your guest starring roles and what did you enjoy most? I’d have to say Valley of the Dolls and Baywatch Nights. Baywatch Nights was fun to play a prostitute that gets killed by a vampire that’s after David Hasselhoff.
What do you find challenging about acting? Getting parts!! Lol The parts that are available to you . The age discrimination. Or when you have the part and knowing how much leeway you have with it with your director?
You’ve traveled a lot for your movie roles. Which was your favorite place? Yes, I’ve traveled to the Czech-Republic, Bulgaria and Canada. I’d have to say my favorite was the Czech-Republic. Just because it was so beautiful and it was my first country to go overseas and shoot! Plus, I love picking up the languages.
Who has been your favorite Director’s to work with? Wow, there’s been a few? I’d have to say, Frank Caruso who’s also my friend. I worked with Frank 3 times and did two films with him in Toronto. The Killing Point and the last one we did, Club Utopia. That one I was the lead and got to play up the comedy. I always enoyed Franks’s vision of things plus he wrote the projects as well. I also enjoyed the creativity of The Duplass Brothers when we did Baghead for Sony Pic Classic. That film was loosely based on a script with a lot of improv and different moment on the spot ideas, that could completely change our character’s approach. That was fun.
What do you like the most about acting? I love the feeling that you get when you slip into a role and it comes to life. And you reach an audience..for good or bad?
Where do you look for inspiration? I look to people to their souls and stories.
What is the difference between acting in a movie versus a t.v. series? Acting in a movie you have more time usually. I tend to book a lot more movies then tv not sure why? Maybe I go out for it more? With TV there’s real quick turn around. For agents the money’s in TV.
What is your current film and role? I have two films I’m slated to do for in 2018. I just finished Mayday. Deomons on a plane. Lol In that I play a newlywed couple that deals with tragedy while we’re on it. That film is more of an ensemble piece.
If you could change anything in the business, what would you change? I’d change having more parts for women, age discrimination, and I’m happy about no more Weinstein bullshit!
