Copa: Where are you from?
Alec: I was born and spent the first few years of my life in Kharkov, Ukraine.

Copa: Which schools have you attended and special courses?
Alec: I began my college years at Old Dominion University, in Norfolk Va, and finished at Marymount University, in Arlington VA. I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Graphic & Media Design, with a focus in print and publication design.

Copa: Who or what encouraged you to gather interest in the art of Photography?
Alec: Back in my sophomore year of high school, I was graced with meeting, now a longtime friend of mine, Marco J. Rando. He was the reason the biggest reason why I decided to pursue fashion & model photography and videography. He taught me, just about, everything I know today.

Copa: Who are your top 3 Photographers of all time and what do find interesting in each one's work?
Alec: I am very picky on photographers. The most important factor I look for, when working or looking for inspiration, is fashion and model photographers that can express emotion. Based off of that, I would say that, Edward Steichen, Cecil Beaton, and Helmut Newton are the top three photographers of all time. I could also argue that Steven Hoffman is on that list as well, especially with his collection in Brooklyn.

Copa: What is it about Fashion Photography that makes it special to you?
Alec: What I love about fashion and model photography is that not only can you express the fashion and style of the model, but you can also express the emotion and attitude of the model, as well as the personality. That is what I go for.

Copa: Please tell us a bit about the equipment you use to create your photo magic?
Alec: I primarily use a Nikon D3400, with several different lenses. Typically for runway, I will use my 18-55 mm. Yet, if I want headshots or upp-midbody portrait shots, I will use my 55-200 lens. I also have quite a few set-ups, regarding backdrops, both cloth and paper backdrops. Furthermore, I use speedlights, the Neewer brand. These speedlights allow me to grab an equal distribution of light upon the model/individual.

Alec: If I could have a photoshoot anywhere in the world, I would choose to shoot at Casablanca, Bora Bora, St. Bartholameau Virgin Islands, or Australia. I don’t have a preference or desire to have a photoshoot with any specific model. Yet, If we are talking about famous personality, I would choose to have a photoshoot with either Barack Obama or Robin Williams.

Alec: I have been published in over 30 magazines, including InFrame Magazine, The Black Magazine, Conn Magazine, LyBell Magazine, SwingBlack Magazine, and many more.

Copa: Do you have any specific rules or policies at your studio sessions with models keep the momentum flowing?
Alec: There are three rules I have when doing a photoshoot. The first being, no inappropriate or sexual poses. The second rule is for the model to just be themselves. I don’t like when models try and overdue poses or work harder than they should be. The third rule is to have fun. Photoshoots should be taken seriously but should also be enjoyable. There should be a reciprocal energy flowing between the model and the photographer.

Copa: What does the future hold for Alec Cosing and his magical world of Photography?
Alec: The future is uncertain, but what I can promise, is that I will be continuing my professional fashion and model photography and videography until I can’t lift a camera anymore. For upcoming events, I have DC Fashion Week, DC Cultura Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week, and World Top Model events coming up.
