Linda will be reporting on fabulous events around the Washington, DC area for Copa Style Magazine on a regular basis.
ALS Benefit at the Vida Fitness Center
I recently had the pleasure of attending a Cocktail Party and Silent Auction at The Penthouse Pool Club at The Yards in SE Washington DC on 5/28/2015. The Fundraising event was organized to benefit ALS research, and the upscale pool is located on the roof top of the Vida Fitness Center. The rooftop pool, with its underwater lighting, gives off a Miami feel, but with a wonderful vista of the DC skyline.
Augie's Quest (www.augiesquest.org) was the beneficiary of the fundraiser, and they have been leading the war on finding a cure by raising more than $45,000,000 since 2006. The event had dozens of high-end silent auction items and services donated from valued partners in the DC area. The Wizard Girls danced and offered "photo ops" while DJ Alex Kouros spun the tunes.
In attendance were local business professionals supporters, media, and celebrities. Paul Wharton was conducting live interviews.
Speaking with John Cusato, who recently lost his wife of 46 years to ALS, I became better informed about this disease and the ongoing efforts to end it for good. Mr. Cusato spent the last four years caring for his beloved wife, who succumbed to ALS earlier this year. He told me this disease needs more awareness and support in the campaign to defeat it, but also assistance and guidance to those family members caring for their loved ones.
