Kimberly Jo Young
~ Model ~
1. Where are you from? I was born in Washington, DC and I lived there until the age of seven. Then my mother, sister and I moved to Prince George's county where I have lived in several areas of Maryland.
2. What schools have you attended? I graduated from Potomac Senior High School in Oxon Hill, MD then attained my BA in Speech Communications from the University of Maryland - College Park.
3. At what time did you aquire a flair for fashion? I believe I fell in love with fashion around my sophomore year of high school. I was part of the model/dance group in which we did everything from full performance dance pieces to small runway shows.
4. When was you first Fashion Show? My first fashion show was during high school. Our group would have fashion shows at the school, local malls, and occassionally at area cabarets.
5. How did you feel about your first photo-shoot? My thoughts going into my first photo shoot were somewhat conflicting --- excitment and nervousness ruled my insides. Believe it or not, I have always been camera shy. Initially I never really liked pictures that were taken of me for one reason or another but mostly because of my own unsureness in not knowing how to pose, should I smile, or just not being comfortable with someone I didn't know taking the pictures. For me, it was unnerving to attempt to make a connection with the photographer in order to convey a story or a feeling through pictures. However, as the session went on, I became more relaxed and understood what the photographer was trying to pull out of me. Don't misunderstand, I have in no way mastered it, but I look foward to the possibility of growth.
6. What does fashion mean to you while expressing your personal style? Fashion expresses confidence and character. My personal style is eclectic yet very classic. So, putting on something mostly black with clean lines and minimalistic design shows that I don't have have to be overly ornate, flashy or revealing to make a statement. Fashion for me, is whatever mood I want to exude at that particular moment and not necessarily what's on trend or in style. I don't have to be wearing an expensive piece nor the hottest designer to feel fashionable and give people a small peek into who I am through what I'm wearing. As long as I feel comfortable, stylish, edgy, professional, elegant, or whatever the theme, that's fashion to me.
7. Who are 3 of your favorite top models? Naomi Campbell, Ashley Graham, Jourdan Dunn
8. What does the future hold for Kimberly Jo Young? The future for me is prayerfully, very bright. Remaining grounded in my faith, continuing my career aspirations, pushing forward with my entrepreneurial endeavors, and pursuing activities, such as modeling, that bring me joy and help me remain thankful for the life that God has given me to manage is a huge task, but I'm here to follow it through. To live the rest of life fulfilled and loved is the optimal future for me.
