Joaie: Madison, Wisconsin. Copa: At what time did you begin with your interest in pageant competition and modeling?
Joanie: I have modeled since the age of 13 and throughout the years have modeled regularly. 2 days ago at the age of 85 I modeled again. I was asked to compete in Pageantry about 7 years ago. I now have 9 titles the most recent one is Ms. Super Senior Universe. |
Copa: Who are your 3 favorite professional models of all time and why?
Joanie: Capucine, Linda Evangelista, and Iman.

Copa: What are 3 favorite elements you love most about pageant competition?
Joanie: Making women friends, being able to speak publicly as I never thought I could, feeling accomplished.

Copa: Please tell our readers about your most recent competition and the highlights of the event.
Joanie: It was Ms. Super Senior Universe pageant in Las Vegas I competed as Ms. Super Senior USA and wore a bathing suit with 5 inch heels at the age of 81. I did win.

Copa: As an 85-year-old pageant contestant, what advice would you give to a new competitor?
Joanie: Just keep trying and the judges will root for you It took me awhile to know that. Copa: What does the future hold for Joanie Helgeson and her fabulous world of style & pageantry?
Joanie: I also fulfilled a dream of being a tap dancer and showgirl with The Original Florida Follies for 14 years before I went into pageantry. Now I am starting a music club in my community. I will also continue to model and play my harp. I can no longer compete in the pageant system I was in. I feel I've won all of the titles. |
