Felece Tillman
~ Jazz Vocalist ~
Copa: Where are you from?
Felece: I’m originally from Washington, D.C. It’s where I grew up and still feel deeply connected to my roots, especially with the local music scene. Copa: What schools have you attended?
Felece: I graduated from Duke Ellington School of the Performing Arts and Virginia Union University where I received my Bachelors of Vocal Music Performance. Copa: Who or what influenced your love for music?
Felece: My love for music began at a very young age. I grew up surrounded by Jazz music, Soul, Motown classics, and the mesmerizing voices of gospel. My grandmother was an amazing jazz pianist and vocalist with her own band during the Bebop era Clara Bow. My earliest mentors were the rich musical jazz heritage in D.C, such as the late vocalist Mary Jefferson and pianist, educator, and composer Attrus Fleming. Copa: What style of music do you sing?
Felece: I love just about all genres but especially soul and jazz. My music blends these two genres with a touch of R&B to tell heartfelt stories to which my listeners can relate. |
Copa: Who are your favorite 3 vocalists of all time, and why?
Felece: This is tough because I love and admire so many, but if I had to choose, it would be Aretha Franklin for her unmatched emotion and power, Luther Vandross for his smooth as silk velvety voice, and Sarah Vaughn for her incredibly rich contralto sound.
